Only in Vegas........

This may come as a surprise to those of you not living in Las Vegas, but there are more Catholic churches there than casinos.

Not surprisingly, some worshipers at Sunday services will give casino chips rather than cash when the basket is passed.

Since they get chips from so many different casinos, the churches have devised a method to collect the offerings. The churches send all their collected chips to a nearby Franciscan Monastery for sorting and then the chips are taken to the casinos of origin and cashed in.

This is done by the Chip Monks..

Thanks Barbara. I don't know if that is true about Catholic Churches but it is true that Vegas has more churches than any city in the US with comparable populations.

When I was growing up people used casino chips as money in the grocery stores, gas stations, etc. And the casinos would accept chips from other casinos. It's not legal today.

And did you know that the Las Vegas Strip (it’s real name is Las Vegas Boulevard) is not in Las Vegas.

Yeah and I hear they're sending a the prositutes in Vegas to the Virgin Islands for recycling.....

That's true. They get to a certain age and nobody buys them anymore. At about 22 or 23 they're pretty well used up and just taking up street corners that can be used for newbie hookers.

Harrah's decided I needed a vacation so they're sending me to Laughlin (may have misspelled that one, but it's a nice place) in Feb. It's not Vegas, but it's a nice little town on the Colorado River and I won the last time I went. Maybe history will repeat itself (or not). Anyhow it'll be a nice change of scene for a little while. Not Vegas, but......
