Title: Valentines....
Post by Melissa on Jan 8th, 2006, 9:50am
Well, I had my first PF night last night.  (shhhhhhh ;))  And since I have a pretty good feeling that my cycle is on its way OUT (the bitch), hubby has agreed to have a family Valentines Day party here. :)  He wanted to have a holiday party, but cancelled it because I was still in pain and he wanted me to enjoy myself.

Anyway, since I wasn't able to really enjoy Christmas or New Years, I am throwing myself into Valentines Day.  The same day I took all the Christmas decorations down, I had my heart banners, lighted window heart decor and the cupid window clings up.  I then hit the Dollar store yesterday and bought a bunch more stuff, like valentine garland, tablecloths, tabletop centerpiece and mobiles.  I then told hubby today I will be purchasing red, pink and white balloons with a helium tank that I will attach ribbons and cut out hearts to, plus Valentines treats for the kids.  I am so psyched!!!  I am going to also buy myself 3 different kinds of wine to slowly indulge myself with. ;)

Do you think I'm going overboard???? [smiley=laugh.gif]

I cannot wait for a week of PF time, because then I'll know it's GONE.  I am so glad you are all here, I am so grateful to Deej (yeah, I don't say it often like some, but old zipperhead really did a great thing when he started this place, even though I'm sure he doesn't like to acknowledge it) and lucky to have the knowledge I do to beat the bitch into the ground.

I am sure there are SO many out there without the net that arn't as fortunate...  That's one thing that we need to make a goal of, when we come in contact with people in the grocery store, at the docs office, store, family, friends, etc. (when the topic of clusters comes up, and you know it does), is to give them the info. we have learned, so they don't have to suffer needlessly like we had for all those years.  If you haven't made a New Years Resolution, but want to, THAT would be an awesome one!!!

Anyway, enough babbling from me. ;;D

YAYYYY VD DAY!!! [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif]

Mel, I'm glad you PF! Congrats! :)

And no, I don't think you went overbord. But then again, you are reading comments from the woman who loves to host a party and decorate houses... If I didn't love writing more, I'd opt to do that for living. So put as much cards, hearts and the rest as you like. I just want to see some pics someday, okay?  ;)
Enjoy!!!!!

Best wishes,
Sanna :)

Langa & Sanna, I will definately take some pics of the place when it's all decked out!  I am hoping it'll be something to remember.... :)

Mel,

For New Year's...Joe bought me this Italian Sparkling Wine called Asti....I highly recommend it.....it's excellent!  I could only have a tiny  bit because I was taking a lot of pain meds for my back, but it really tasted good!

I guess that's one of the few good things I take out of being chronic (for me) - as long as I stay away from certain types of alcohol, it doesn't affect my CH's.

Happy celebrating!!

Hugz,
Carrie :)

Ahhh yes, Asti Spumante, good stuff!  We usually buy a few bottles of it for New Years.  It has to be Santini though, the others don't taste right to me... :-/

I'm going to wait until I have 1 week of PF time before I touch a drink.  I'm not going to send myself into an attack just for a small indulgence until I am sure I'm done with this cycle.

No Worries!!! ;;D

That's what the Red Sox said about Babe Ruth and you all saw how THAT turned out. Ya never know what can happen when people add a few dollars, or a "player to be named later" into the equation ;-)

Jas & Barb, Thanks!!! :)

Bob- Just what are you getting at? LOL

Carrie- I've never heard of Nando before.  Does it say where it's made?

Linda- Is that what you drink? ;;D  (snicker)  I'm looking along the lines of a wine with good fruit, that is NOT dry and is red.  I do have one picked out so far called Australia's Yellow Tail Merlot.  I would like to also try some of the German Ruslei (sp?).  And I will drink my wine with my pocket protector close to my heart and my glasses at the end of my nose. Hell NO!  I was like...um....being faceitious Mellie-poo.

Try Christians Bros. Port wine.  It's not dry, It's red and it's as fruity as you are.   ;;D

Don't forget to use wine glasses with a handle on them.  The ones that look like canning jars.   Damn, I crack myself up sometimes.

Linda- Big f'ing Ha Ha, lmao :P  (p.s. ty for the suggestion on the wine.  I'll have to look for it this week while I do my grocery shopping ;;D)

Charlie- Rite Aid??  They carry wine there?  No freakin way! :o    :-* ty hon

Kevin- Ohhh you have no idea.  You should have seen my hubby yesterday, he was wondering if I had been snorting something the way I was acting all lovey dovey, LMAO.  BTW, VD can mean many a thing my dear! [smiley=laugh.gif] ;)

Carrie- Sounds expensive, was it bottled there too?  I am going to be a little loose on the pocketbook this time when I buy my wine.  Life is too short to always go with the cheap stuff.  This time I want to enjoy the taste.  I guess that means I am maturing..... :P

There's a wine named 'Breitenbach' that is really really good......"Frost Fire" is the one that brand makes that is VERY popular !! I drank almost one bottle of it by myself one nite at a freinds outside bonfire party......there not big fat bottles or nothin and was a nice break from beer. I got a great buzz off of just a few glasses of it and had a great time.......well......till I got that not so fun SPINS feeling !! It was only 10:00 pm and I am sittin along side my truck banging my head tryin to shake the spins......how embarrassing !!!! I was so mad at myself cuz I was really haveing a good time......one minor detail.......don't forget to eat when drinking !!!!! I blew it and was home spinnin on my own couch by 10:20 pm Pam

Also Boones Farm Apple makes some good tasteing wine also all kinds of flavors now that is GOOD !! Not a real strong wine either like the first one I mentiond. Problem with me and wine is I get a great buzz early but I get a hangover that leaves LATE !!! Hope yer outa cycle and stay PF............way cool !!!!

BobG- are you volunteering? ;;D  Butt seriously, any thunder from down under is worth gandering at, hehe.

Minnie- Thank you so much sweetheart!  I will have to see if we carry any NY wines.  I know we have some from all over the world, but I tend to think that there are a lot of good wineries right here in the good old U.S. ;)

Carol- Don't be so damn shy!  That wasn't so bad! ;)  LOL!

Coots- Boones Farm? I used to get that stuff when I was young because I wanted to get drunk with stuff that tasted like candy, LMAO!  I'm sorta lookin for something a bit more sophisticated nowdays as I want to test lots of good, rich stuff.  BTW, a nice full bodied sipping wine is a good relaxer. ;)

Shaz- Thanks so much!! :)

Melissa--I was only kidding, BUT I think that it is great that you are feeling much better. I know when it appears that the cycle is winding down, I always am abit nervous about the whole thing !!! But I have had pain free nights since Dec. 11th. Even now I am not pushing my luck. From mid october til dec.11 ( 2 full months) I was in hell, and I couldn't even think of going anywhere . Oh GAWD, how this makes me think of high school.
you forgot Maddog 20 20 and Boones Farm (honorable mention to Diamond red)

I have tried alot of different wines. Considering you like Asti, I would stick with white. It's lighter. Since it really is a matter of taste, research won't help too much. go to a store with a decent selection and plan on spending $10 - $12. Pinot Grigio is nice. (My wife likes it, I like the reds myself) Let me know.

Even though I did have one hit last night, I bought the bottles today anyway.  Here's what I got...

From South East Australia- 2004 "YellowTail" Merlot
From Italy- 2003 "Melini" Chianti (Silence of the Lambs is my favorite thriller, so I figured what the heck, might as well try some!)
From France- 1999 "Chateau Greysac" Cru Bourgeois Medoc

I cannot wait!!!!

;;D ;;D ;;D

Thanks so much again everyone!

(p.s., I like a red, full bodied wine, no light crap, just good fruit, well ripened and the less dry the better as I do not care for getting a buzz on more than I want to enjoy the taste...;))

PAT- I cannot read what wine that is, what is it?

Melly that was Dom Perignon, a champagne although as champagnes go I prefer Krug myself.
If you like full bodied reds try a nice Rioja or a Tempranillo.. two of my favourite wines  :)

Oh, ok.  I don't care too much for champagne tho, but I'll try anything once! ;)

If you're into full bodied reds I would have to say that our (Australian) reds are among the best in the world. In terms of quaffers there are an inordinate number of Shiraz and Merlot releases every year that are extremely drinkable (cellaring is for rich old stingy people) all around the AUD$10-15 range. This past holiday season I drank two cases of Hardy's Oomoo Shiraz (RRP AUD$12.95 but around $10 if you shop around). The last few years it was Ingoldby Shiraz. If it's a really special occasion then look for Cape Mentelle Cab/Merlot, I think it's around $25.

As a general rule of thumb it's a safe bet to stay well away from NSW wines (sure, the Hunter Valley is a pleasant place but the wine is pretty hit-and-miss). South Australia for reds and New Zealand first for my favourite whites (SSB) then maybe Tasmania. Of course every now and then you get something really good from some strange part of the world but I don't have enough drink vouchers (money) to stray too far from local wines.

Feel free to PM me about it.
