Here we go our first Tropical Cyclone for the season.
Hoping for some rain but not the destructive winds.
Todays going to be final yard clean up day: major prepatations were done in October so now we now wait and see, will keep you updated.
I live in the coastal town of Karratha.

The cyclone is expected to move roughly parallel to the coastline for the next 24 hours. However, gales with gusts to 90 kilometers per hour may develop today on the coastline between Cape Leveque and Port Hedland.

The cyclone is expected to intensify into a severe tropical cyclone in the next two days and move closer to the Pilbara coast during Monday and Tuesday. It seems likely that the cyclone will impact the Pilbara coast by Tuesday.

Details of cyclone Clare at 5:00 am WST.
Location of centre: within 50 kilometers of
Latitude 15.3 South Longitude 121.4 East.
Recent movement : west southwest at 24 kilometers per hour.
Central Pressure : 990 hPa.
Maximum wind gusts: 110 kilometers per hour.
Severity category: 1.

Just to let you know how we are going.
Current stage category 3 but expected to hit cat 4 before 2100hrs our time.
The town is in total lock down as of 1300hrs Monday Jan 9, currently on red alert and looking at a direct hit somewhere around 2200hrs our time.

Very little rain with this one which is good as the rain will loosen the soil and trees would start to fall causing problems.
Wind gusts at around 150 km/hr at the moment and just seeing what will eventuate.

Good weather this side thanks, Jazz. Been getting some excellent rain, the dam's now waist deep, and we can flush the dunny any time of day!

Price we're paying is the mosquitos. Our new house is 40 paces from a coastal mud-flat with fringing mangroves and 8 paces the other side to a fresh-water swamp. Wildlife is fantastic but what's-her-name got bashed up real bad by the mossies so my life's a bit miserable just now.

As for Barry's cyclone, it crossed the coast as only a Cat 3, thank goodness, with winds around 120mph. I expect we'll get the details from him as soon as power and telephone are restored.

Hi all
Back at last we got off pretty lightly; Clare went through as only a Cat 3 and had very little preceding rain, this saved us in that if things were wetter we would have lost a lot more trees & power lines, the rain came on the tail end as she passed us 162 mm or 6.5 inch.

We missed the centre by about 20 km, close enough to upset the hairdo; the max wind gust recorded was just over 200km/Hr.
Most of the towns within the region lost power and telecommunications but the authorities have done a brilliant job of getting 99% of things back to as normal as one could expect.

Still haven’t got power on at home as yet so life’s a little uncomfortable at the moment but we are alive & well and glad to be back in touch with the rest of the world.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

We now have the power back on & got a good nights sleep with being able to run the aircon and feel human again.

The cyclone turned into a rain bearing depression after it crossed the coast and followed the coast just inland bringing much needed rain the area’s to the south of us, some even reached our capital city Perth 2000 km away so it turned into a god send for those parched areas, in about 10 days the country side around here should be alive with greenery and wild flowers; mother nature looking after its own.

Yea they can be a little nasty much the same as the hurricanes you have in the US and we run the same category rating as you do so that gives you an idea what they are like, the only difference is that generally the don’t effect the huge population centres that the hurricanes do.
