Title: New guy from Oslo, Norway Post by freaksh0 on May 29th, 2005, 12:55pm Hello. Came across this site from wikipedia, looking for migraine. I've been diagnosed with migraine since I was a child. However, i've never quite had the symptoms as zig-zag vision and doublesided temple pain. However, i came across an article in a popular newspaper about "Cluster Headaches" and i recognized the symptoms, which eventually brought me here. I've had CH since i was a child. Since my youthhood, I've had occasional CH attacks, mostly triggered by alcohol and tobacco. Some other triggers are when eating too little food during a day. The attacks usually last only 3 to 6 hours with pain in the temples and eyeballs on a single side. The sides vary from attack to attack. Right now i'm fending off the remaining CH from yesterday, when i got drunk and smoked cigarettes. I find that drinking coca cola and eating chocolate or junkfood with lots of fat in it, helps take the CH away. The attacks are also related to my state of mind. If I have a good time out when drinking, there are rarely CH attacks. However, if I'm bored during the party, chances of an attack the day after are quite high. Often, if i go on a holiday to a new place the CH attacks don't come. I rarely get "other" types of headaches than cluster headaches. |

Title: Re: New guy from Oslo, Norway Post by Gator on May 30th, 2005, 8:32pm Welcome to the website, Freaksh0. Looks like you got something going on there, but I wouldn't want to make bet on what. Before you start asking for the ch meds, you should get a proper diagnosis from a neurologist well versed in ch. An MRI would be a good idea as well. None of us are doctors, so we can only tell you from our personal experiences what we think it sounds like and what has worked for us. Some of your symptoms sound like ch and others do not. CH attacks don't usually last more than 3 hours and state of mind rarely has anything to do with getting or not getting an attack. I've been happy as a clam one minute and banging my head the next. CH typically stays one sided, with the odd slap on the opposite side or sometimes changing sides on subsequent cycles. I don't think I've heard anyone here say theirs alternates from one side to the other on each subsequent attack. The attacks aren't "occassional" either. Typically, they come about the same time every year with attacks ranging from one every other day to eight times per day and lasting 15 minutes to 3 hours. Either that or some of the "luckier" people (like gawd who did I piss off to deserve this) are chronic and just get hit every day, sometimes several times a day for years or decades on end. Get with Svenn and his neurologist. They'll get you pointed in the right direction. Svenn's a good man who has done a lot for clusterheads in your neck of the woods. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out. |
