Title: Anyone from Suffolk???
Post by Matt Rutherford on May 26th, 2005, 11:39am
Hi I'm Matt.  I'm a new member living in Suffolk, England.  Until recently thought I was the only one in the world who suffered with these headaches.  I'm glad I have found other people who understand the pain, because it is impossible to describe to anyone else.  If there is anyone around this area would love to have a chat about how they deal with the monster that is Cluster Headaches.

Hello Matt!
I'm not from Suffolk but I know where it is so that's a start isn't it?! (I'm in Notts)
Ive just seen your other post too so I'll reply to both at the same time, forgive me if I miss anything ok?!
Firstly by the sound of it you aren't taking any meds are you? Take the cluster quiz to your left, see a doctor and get an mri aranged. There are many other conditions which are very very similar to CH but need different meds so it is really important to get an accurate diagnosis.
I saw you asking about the kudzu, its been a terrific option for alot of people here but you really should still discuss it with your doctor as some people have had a reaction to it and your doctor is the one who knows what drugs are compatible with you.
Personally I love my O2, its just brilliant and I'd really recommend you ask your doctor about giving that a go. Check out ouch uk

They havealot of advice and information which is good for us as drug names (and what you can get!!) do vary between here and the US. For instance we can't get Melatonin. In England its only licensed for ADHT whereas in the US its an OTC med.
Read up all you can and arm yourself with info to take to your doctor, ask any questions you want and let us know how you are getting on okay?
Take care of you
Helen

Hi Matt and welcome! Just to let you know that on June 12th it's the OUCK UK national conference in London when there will be about 150 clusterheads all together :o check the link Helen provided. One of the speakers is Prof Goadsby- one of the leading world authorities on CH.

  All the best Fil.
Edit to get the date right  ::)

Hi Matt,

I'm from Yorkshire but live in Lancs!  (Well, someone has to!);;D  I can only second what Helen has advised you.  Here is a link to an excellent article which you might want to print off and show your GP. Be prepared for him/her to know little or nothing about CH. You should ask for a referral to a Neurologist who specialises in headaches. GPs in the UK are often reluctant to prescribe Imigran injections ( they are very expensive) and oxygen, but the recomendation from a specialist will help you to get the correct medications.

Good luck.
