Title: another newbie Post by arcticcat on May 13th, 2005, 10:37am Hi. started a month ago - thought they were just headaches but it was bothering me that it was always the same spot with no relief from OTC's. Went to Dr., had a CT, gave me Imitrex (worked), went back after I ran out and he diagnosed CH's. Lucky in a way I guess since some of you suffered for years not knowing the problem. I am in my infancy so I don't know if: I am chronic, cycle duration, attack frequency (1 a day, then 2, then 3, now it's 4.....). I am not much of a message boarder (is that a word?) so forgive if I do not respond after this. I am an emailer so feel free........ 250mg Verapamil, 9mg melatonin at night, Imitrex at onset. Bearable (kip 5-6) Stopped smoking/drinking (that sucked-enjoyed both), lots of water. I think that's it. Could be better, could be worse. Great wife, great kids. I have a lot to be thankful for. Just another pothole in the road of life....... Nice to meet you all. |

Title: Re: another newbie Post by Giovanni on May 13th, 2005, 12:13pm Hi arcticcat, You can throw this away the 800mg Ibuprofen 3x/day--won't do any good. How much verapamil are you taking? You'll need probably over 240 Mg to have any positive effect. Imitrex is great, but some people (including me) says it prolongs the cycle and will cause some rebound headaches. Oxygen should be investigated to the configuration to your left for a good way to abort the headaches (for a large number of us). You proabably do not have "chronic" cluster headaches, but will not know for sure until they continue over a year without a 30 day remission. Most of us are eposidic. The cycles come and go for a few weeks to a number of months and return as quickly as they leave. You might want to investigate melatonin at nights, kudzu, various vitamins ie B-complex, etc. Drinking is an automatic trigger (when in cycle) for a number of us. Good number of CH people stopped smoking. Smoking doesn't appear to help the CH one way or the other. The best thing you can do know is to educate yourself as much as possible on this condition including all alternative treatments. Good luck. John |
