Title: Hello I'm new
Post by Ashley on Apr 27th, 2005, 6:54pm
Hello everyone I am new to this site. My name is Ashley and I was told that I have cluster migraines about a year or 2 ago. My pain was excruciating. I had severe pain every single day for 2 and a half years. The doctors said it was all from stress. I had every test done imaginable for them to draw this conclusion. I was put on a med in the hospital under watch because they said it could give me a heart attack and it almost did. So I can't take any of the prescribed migraine meds out there because they all have this drug in them and I might have a heart attack. So I got sick of living with the pain and decided to do a little of my own research. I found out a lot about herbs and vitamins. I am taking a pill of feverfew and a pill of ginger every day and they help my pain greatly. I hardly get pain but when I do its only once in awhile. I was wonder about oxygen helping with the pain?? Does it??Well I am very happy to have found this site it is very helpful and I hope to be here for a long time. Take care, to pain free days.
Ashley  ;) :)

Hi Ashley
Welcome to the board!  Sorry to hear that you're a fellow sufferer, but you have definately come to the right place.  Sounds like you've had a pretty interesting experience with clusters, you'll find alot here who have been down a similar path.  If you're looking for info, this is a great place, look around the boards and you'll find a ton of stuff that may be helpfull.  For the oxygen, check out the link on the left side of the page under oxygen info, it will answer alot of questions you have about o2. All I can say is read it and take heed, it is a great help for most of us, and it has the added benefit of not having alot of side effects like many of the meds, much like your experiences.  Come on in, introduce yourself, don't be afraid to ask questions, and share your experiences.  Everyone here is one big family, someone is usually always around, and willing to lend an ear or any kind of help we can.
Ben

Hi Ashley,

Welcome.  Please be sure to take the cluster quiz to the left and read the medical info here.

To my knowledge, no diagnosed cluster sufferer has ever gotten relief from the herbs you mentioned.  As a menopausal person, I take ginger on a regular basis for dizziness and have also taken feverfew - never helped my cluster syndrome.

I'll also tell you that my first neurologist diagnosed me with "cluster migraines."  However ... there is no such thing.  You either have migraines or you have clusters, and there are some who suffer from both.  Regardless, they are two entirely different problems!

Please get a second opinion.

In answer to your oxygen question .. yes, it is a great abortive for those who suffer clusters.  First, you need to be sure that's what you have.  Keep researching and reading.  In the meantime, be happy that you've found something that helps with the pain you're suffering.

Hugs,

Kris

Oxygen worked for me. The problem was that I can't carry O2 everywhere I go.

I am new here as well.

Mike - be sure to check with your doc about Imitrex injectibles or nasal spray - very portable and very effective.

Hugs,

Kris
