Title: they're baaaaack Post by John_Booth on Apr 16th, 2005, 6:57am They're Baaaaaack. After about a 2-year remission. Started 5 mornings ago at about 5:15 am. Had one every morning since, at about the same time. But I have a new defense, ... get upright immediately and get active. They have not peaked and last only about 15 minutes instead of 45 minutes. They turn around at about 1/2 scale pain. I consider myself lucky and grateful for being able to turn them around before they go full blown. God help us all. jb |

Title: Re: they're baaaaack Post by TonyG1 on Apr 16th, 2005, 9:59am John - Sorry to hear you're in pain again ... I too take hits that wake me from a dead sleep ... the dreaded night time hits suck >:( !!! For me, getting up and getting active is the best thing I can do. In fact, remaining lying down is NOT an option when I take a hit. I've had CH for 18+years episodically but was just officially diagnosed this year. How about you? While in cycle, I take verapamil as a preventative and have imitrex on hand as an abortive. Many, many, many ppl indicate that 02 via a non rebreather mask is very effective at aborting an attack -- I can't speak to that as I haven't tried it. Additionally for some Melatonin taken at bed time seems to be effective for some. This board is gr8 in terms of the info available and the ppl who are here ... we all understand your pain. Welcome and good luck to you. I wish you many pain free days and nights (PFDANs) !! Tony |

Title: Re: they're baaaaack Post by John_Booth on Apr 17th, 2005, 6:16am Thank you all for the empathy and advice. I have had CH for about 30 years, ... but often skip a year or two. My episodes can get to a KIP 10 but not in a while, .... after I learned not to remain lying down. I thought for years it was a sinus/allergy complication and denied CH even after a neurologist diagnosed me about 25 years ago. In fact, it is this website that finally and absolutely convinced me. I take no medication, ... preventive or otherwise. Why, ... I don't know, .. guess that keeping the KIP no worse than a 7 or so is satisfactory in some peculiar way to me. My seasons are spring and fall, .. and I even thought for a while it was a sinus condition due to weather changes. Now I know different. I know I am lucky, ... and my heart goes out to all who deal with the demon. |

John - I didn't take anything other than OTC meds until this cycle -- like you, my cycles are every couple of years. The verapamil worked miracles for me after about the first week or so of being on it ... I could kick myself for not getting to the doc and getting the right prescription sooner ... just a thought |

Title: Re: they're baaaaack Post by John_Booth on Apr 18th, 2005, 10:43am I will ask my VA doctor about Verapamil. Thank you for the tip, and good luck. I talked down about 7 of 'em in a row over the last week, but NONE TODAY!!! Maybe this cycle is ended!! jb |
