Title: Hi all, new to this forum, not these dang clusters Post by Dangitboy on Mar 8th, 2005, 8:06pm Hello, Just jotting down a few thoughts about these headaches. I have been cluster free for about 3 1/2 years now. Well, they have started back about 2 weeks ago. Started out with small headaches I could use hot compresses on and get them to subside. Slept well at first, surprisingly. Now these things are back with a vengence. Sunday had like 5 or 6 during the day. Last night (Monday) was the worst. Those of you who work with your hands will understand this description. It was like someone had a 3/4" drill bit starting at my left jawbone, going up behind my left eye, and ending up in the left frontal lobe of my brain, twisting, turning, and never ever stopping, or coming out. I couldn't walk well, talked with a bad mumble, my head must have been tilted, I couldn't see well, plus the tearing of my left eye. I tried hot compress's, finally did a Imatrex inhaler, I hate to use medicines. Within about 20 minutes it did finally subside. My sweet wife was right there for me, she tolerates my impatience, (seconds seem like a lifetime when your hurting so badly) my snapping attitude, she is a wonderful person to be able to put up with this. She is my little piece of Heaven! I was scared to death to go back to sleep, for the fear it would return. Those of you who know this, also know we can turn into " The Eternal Insomniac" when these attacks are full blown. Sorry to get so longwinded here, Anyway, HI EVERYONE, hope your cluster free! |

Title: Re: Hi all, new to this forum, not these dang clus Post by nani on Mar 8th, 2005, 8:48pm Welcome, Dangitboy, and sorry you're here. Too bad you're hurting again. :( If you don't like to use meds please check this out. You should probably not use any Imitrex if you opt to try it, though. Read through the whole thread, it's long, but worth it. Oxygen is a very effective abortive for many of us. Look on the left for oxygen info. Good luck and pain free wishes, nani http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=meds;action=display;num=1107368408 |

Title: Re: Hi all, new to this forum, not these dang clus Post by Gator on Mar 9th, 2005, 1:02am Welcome to my nightmare! The folks here definitely understand the pain, the frustration and the fear of sleep. Come on in and read the stuff in the links to the left and on the OUCH site. Read through the different boards. New info seems to be coming out almost daily, sometimes. I know just what you mean about the insomnia. My last bad bout had me awake for 5 days. Sounds like you have a wonderful supporter. Make damn good and sure you take care of her. I've seen lots of spouses/significant others walk just in the year I have been here. So sad. Introduce her to the website. There is a special board just for supporters. She can get info and a shoulder to lean on when things are rough. Supporters need support, too. Again, welcome. It sucks that you have a reason to be here, but you won't find a better place for information and support of Cluster Headaches. |

Title: Re: Hi all, new to this forum, not these dang clus Post by jokrs2 on Mar 9th, 2005, 1:21am Wow! Dangitboy, that description of your CH is VERY familiar. Sorry that you know such a good description. Hang in there. I have an angel wife as well. She sees me at night and just knows that I dread going to sleep because I look like what you described everytime I wake. Thanks to Nani and others I am trying Kudzu and I am starting to show signs of improvement, and you know we'll take an additional second without that devil. I managed to fall asleep sitting up in a recliner the other night, (melatonin) helps, and woke without a full blown CH for the first time in a long time. Lots of info and great people in here, and I hope you find Pain Free Help. Joe |

Title: Re: Hi all, new to this forum, not these dang clus Post by Dangitboy on Mar 9th, 2005, 7:17pm Went to the Neuroligist today, he wanted to prescribe Depakote as a preventitive. I told him I couldn't take it, because it mess's my liver enzimes up terribly. He just looked at me like I didnt know a dang thing. ::) This isnt my first rodeo! But without a preventive being prescribed I can't get the Imitrex. As much as I hate taking it, I HATE these CH's much more. Sometimes the Imitrex is the only thing that ease's the pain to a tolerable level. He also wants to do a MRI on me, again, its been like 8 years since I had one. Thanks for all the response's, and I will read up on the oxygen treament. Hope you all have wonderdful sleep and are pain free! |

If you spend some time looking around this site, you will find many options to check out for your headaches. Ditto on what nani said about oxygen. It works for many of us. Best of luck in finding what works for you. |

Title: Re: Hi all, new to this forum, not these dang clus Post by Kris_in_SJ on Mar 9th, 2005, 8:23pm Hi and Welcome, I strongly recommend following Nani's lead to the totally unofficial Kudzu study currently being conducted here. You'll find it under "medications and treatments." Also, if your doc is insistent on a preventative, is Verapamil an option for you? When in cycle, 480mg/day does wonders for me. In a way, I can understand your doc's reluctance to prescribe Trex without a preventative ... the goal is to prevent the HA's in the long run, and too much Trex can be very bad over the long haul. Oxygen is a good alternative, as mentioned above. At any rate, sorry you're in pain again and have to undergo that awful MRI thing again also. How many non-existent brain tumors do cyclic clusterheads have to undergo, anyway? Hang in there! Kris |
