Title: Sleep Paterns
Post by Anthony_Robert on Mar 3rd, 2005, 3:41am
Thanks for the replys I got.  I saw a show on the science channel about headaches and CH.  They said one of the most causes is change in sleep patterns.

I have been working Sunday through Thursday 2pm to 11pm for over 10 years.  Then for whatever reason corporate decides to change my schedule on Sunday and Monday only to 5am-2pm.  When I get off work Monday at 2pm I am totally exhausted, but take a nap and wake up at 8 or 9pm.  Then I get back into my normal routine and go to bed Monday night like normal.  But I think this is what triggers my Tuesday 7am attack.  I think it is the aftermath of the two early shifts.  I go the whole week just fine, but I sure do dread Tuesday.

This week, fortunately, one of the other managers is ill, and I get to work my age old schedule.  It will be real interesting to see if I get an attack Tuesday.

I have found that if I don't pay close attention to my sleeping patterns and get over-tired it can trigger an attack. I work a rotating shift.....graveyard for 7 days, 2 off, dayshift for 5 days, 4 off, swing shift for 7 days, 2 off, dayshift for 6 days, 2 off.......repeat. Been doing this for 35+ years. I like it  but I must be sure to pay attention to what time it is.
Cluster attacks come on during REM sleep mode, usually about a hour after falling asleep. You might try some Benedryl (sp?) or melatonin before bed time. Sleeping with the head elevated or in the La-Z-Boy helps too.
Welcome to the board.
