Hi Davies and welcome to the board but sorry you're suffering so much at the present time. This is a great site with loads of info but if you you want to check up on the UK angle then go to www.ouchuk.org where you'll get the Brit slant on all things CH.

    Cheers Filbert.

So sorry you're in our boat, but you won't find better information anywhere about clusters.  This board saved my life and now I can deal with our common "beast".
When I came here(2/02), I was having 6-8 ha's a day, KIP 5-9 (see KIP scale - six down on the left), and sometimes 3-5 a night.  This, after a year of mis-diagnosis, non-working meds, and lots of tests (all normal of course).  Here I found a "name-for-the-pain" and ways to battle CH.

Oxygen is my only abortive (see oxygen info - ten down on left) - I can't take triptans (like your nasal spray).  The injections (imitrex) are preferred by those that can use triptans because they work within 5-10 minutes.   I can abort a ch within minutes with 02 if caught early enough (daytime no problem - - kill him in minutes ) and within 10-15 min if he wakes me with a KIP 3-5. . . . and then back to sleep . . . it's wonderful and works for about 70% of us.

The above is for aborting an attack,  but you will need to consult your doctor about a preventative (I use Verapamil,  but there are many and many combinations . . .. sometimes it takes awhile to find the right one for you.  The motto here is "nothing works for everyone, but something works for everyone"

Read up on melatonin, it's an over-the-counter supplement that helps reduce the number/intensity of nighttime hits . . . makes you kinda groggy in the morning, but many believe it is of benefit.

Identify your triggers . . . alchohol was one for me . . . . would trigger an attack within 20 min - -  quit 2/02.  Any particular fumes/chemicals trigger them for you?

Read, read, read . . . .ask questions on the boards or PM folks who you wish to communicate.  Check the "where we live" link on the left below the yellow OUCH website . . . you'll find several from the UK.

 GET SOME OXYGEN !

  Be safe,   PFDANs

     Richard

Were you diagnosed as episodic or chronic?  If episodic, you can expect to go through weeks or months or attacks followed by week, months or years before they return; if chronic, like me, you can expect several attacks a day of varying intensity with some short (a few days) remissions, then back to the attacks; it is a lifelong illness, very sorry that you have it.

Nasal spray Imitrix is not as effective as the injections, but they don't always work.  Nasal spray Stadol is effective, but you'd need to see an anesthesiologist about that-I'd recommend that you get a referral to a pain clinic.  Best of luck to you.

Why would she do that?

She seems to have found a Doc who prescribes the appropriate meds.

Hi Jo  :)
How are you doing? Nice to meet you!!
I'm Helen and I live in Notts, are you in the Ringwood in Hants? I'll be down that way on the second May Bank Holiday so if you want to meet up give me a shout!
I've got 3 kids myself so I can relate to your struggles there.. it all seems a bit overwhelming, especially at first. Ther imigran sprays WILL help, its also available as injections which are even quicker at working.
Have you thought about trying O2 at all? I find it an absolute lifesaver.
Have you had a look at the OUCH UK site at all? Its worth pointing it out to your doc too.
If you want to IM me your phone number I'll happily give you a call
Look after yourself! Oh... and keep letting us know how you are getting on!
Helen
