Title: Hello everyone Post by alice2 on Feb 5th, 2005, 5:22pm Hello everyone...I'm new so I thought I'd just introduce myself...and ramble a bit. I couldn't believe it reading the accounts on the homepage...it was like reading about myself. Especially the bits about wanting to take your eye out and similar! I've had headaches pretty much constantly since I was about 15 (I'm 21 now). I always used to assume it was because I needed glasses-I'm shortsighted and everyone used to tell me that my headaches were from eyestrain. Got my glasses in 2001, and no, didn't help. I go through periods where I'm pain free for a couple of weeks, and then-wham. I'm completely incapacitated for up to a week. Other times it's just dull, constant pain with no real "rhythm", like I'm in at the moment. It's frustrating because I'm in my last year at university, there's so much work to do and if you say you missed a class/whatever because you "had a headache", your tutors just look at you and think *what?*. They don't know the half of it. /end ramble Look forward to chatting with everone anyway. |

Title: Re: Hello everyone Post by Redd715 on Feb 5th, 2005, 5:45pm Have you seen a neuro yet? Have you tried taking the quiz over to the left there? <<< fourth button down. What are the specific symptoms, how long do they last, what have you taken for meds in the past? What have you done to cope in the past and what meds do you take now? Lots of questions .....I know I know....but the more we know the better we can help steer you the answers you seek. Wishing for your sake you didn't have to find us...if ya know what I mean... :'( |

Title: Re: Hello everyone Post by alice2 on Feb 5th, 2005, 6:46pm Yeah, my doctor referred me to a neurologist, but I never made an appointment...I know, how stupid. I suppose that means I have no right to complain! I was feeling a lot better at the time and I suppose I thought there was no need. Yes, I did take that quiz, because I wasn't sure if my headaches were cluster or not-I've always matched more to migraines, especially with the duration and the sickness. But it was a bit ambiguous-I chose about the same amount of answers from both 'sections', so I couldn't really tell from that what I 'was'! I just recognised everything people were saying in their own posts. So familiar. I don't take "strong" medication, only paracetamol. But I have a lot. I don't know how many I've gone through this week alone! I find sometimes that heat application can help, even if only temporarily. I don't like taking strong medication generally (except when I'm at my wits end and I'd happily have anything going!) My headaches can last from short bursts of about 30 minutes to an hour, which reoccur many times for days, or constantly for up to 72 hours (these are more severe). I tend to get them mostly in the left side of my head, round my eye and temple. Other symptoms that sometimes turn up are bloodshot/watery eyes, pain around the sinus area, sensitivity to light...you know, the ususal suspects! |

This is the only part that concerns me...as if the pain of the migraine is more sever...as a rule....than the shorter HA's I would be inclined to say probably not cluster. Thank your lucky stars hun! Cluster pain...as a rule...is more sever than migraine. The OTC stuff work at all? Take the edge off for you? edit to add: others will be around to put in their two cents worth in.... also what is your usual desire when getting a HA? lay down in the quiet and dark? Or are you aggitaded, paceing, restless...can you fall asleep for relief of any of them? |

Title: Re: Hello everyone Post by sandie99 on Feb 10th, 2005, 3:14pm Alice, have you talked with your teachers about your headaches? When I was doing my dissertation last spring, my CH nearly destroyed me - I had the hardest time ever. But when I discussed the matter with my teachers I was told that I could apply for extension based on the circumstances. Maybe you could, too! Find it out. And if you can, make that appointment to see a neurologist. Then you'll be wiser about what you have. Good luck! :) Best wishes & PFdays, Sandie |

Title: Re: Hello everyone Post by jokrs2 on Mar 1st, 2005, 2:10am Hi Alice. Best wishes for your head throbs. Since you've found this awesome place you might as well use all the facilities.....ya know all the stuff to the left. Informative and of course your participation helps everyone who visits learn more about his/her problem and how to get to the best possible pain situation for them and you. I have been soaking in as much info as I can and the more you talk through your situation, the more the "more" experienced people here will come to your assistance with GREAT advice. I pray that you are healed and live PF. Blessings, Joe 8) |
