Title: New Guy from Easton Pa. Post by mgutman on Jan 30th, 2005, 11:52pm Hey all: I just found your site. I just started a new cycle of cluster headaches and decided to do a little research. I found this site and am thrilled to have some people who can sympathize with my plight. My wife, although a wonderful woman just dreads my being up half the night when these happen, (god bless Imatrex!!) I have found the the nasal spray works fairly well although I am anxious to try the shots as I have heard great things. I believe I am fortunate that my cycle is usually 3 or 4 weeks every 4 or 5 years. They are very intense and the cycle always start with a feeling ofa tooth ache but then proceed to the crushing headaches that we all know so well. I look forward to hearing from any of you that may have some advise and my best to you all. |

Title: Re: New Guy from Easton Pa. Post by Barry_T_Coles on Jan 31st, 2005, 3:57am Hi and welcome I only found this site a couple of weeks ago myself and its been a great help the people here really are an encouragement. My clusters are about hte same as yours about three years apart. A good one for the tooth is a fresh sprig of clove crushed between the tooth directly above or below the one that is aching, hold the clove there untill the tooth settles down. If you dont have a tooth below or above to do the crushing you can get clove oil from a Chemist/Pharmastist. Dont ask me how this natural herb works but I assure you that it does and has been a around for years but forgotten as modern medicines have developed. PFDAN Kind Regards Barry |

Title: Re: New Guy from Easton Pa. Post by RichardN on Jan 31st, 2005, 12:58pm Welcome Noticed you're 50. Did doc check your cholesterol and for sign of any arterie blockage? I'll be 58 in March, and can't take triptans because of the above. . . can be dangerous . . . but . . . . . . . The 02 is wonderful and if it works for you then you can save your Imitrex for the ones the 02 won't reach. Identify your triggers . . . alchohol was the biggie for me . . .quit 2/02 Welcome to the nuthouse, Be safe, PFDANs Richard |

Title: Re: New Guy from Easton Pa.http://www.brightok.net Post by Kris_in_SJ on Jan 31st, 2005, 4:05pm Hi and Welcome, I'm also an episodic with cycles 3-5 years apart. In a way you're lucky yours only last 3-4 weeks (if there's any such thing as lucky with CH's). There are a number of good preventative meds available, though most take a week to 10 days to kick in. Might be worth checking out, though. Prednisone might also be helpful. Here's a good link on some of the latest therapies that you might find helpful. Sure saved me during my most recent cycle: http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf Here's hoping for PFDAN soon to come! Hugs, Kris |

Title: Re: New Guy from Easton Pa. Post by BlueMeanie on Feb 1st, 2005, 6:43pm Hello GutMan, Trex injections are about the best abortive, assuming you have no heart problems. Check with your doc before using. If you do get them, check the Imitrex tip to the left of this page. Most people can abort a CH with 1/2 an injection. It will save you big bucks and keep the heart from pounding with a lot less anxiety. Check the 02 info to left left of the page also. Good stuff for most Clusterheads as long as you're using it right. Welcome, BM |
