Title: Sorta but not really.
Post by AllyW on Jan 27th, 2005, 11:25am
Hello everyone, I just found your site.  Maybe you can help me.  I awoke yesterday at the normal time to an occasional stabbing pain (1-10 seconds apart) above my left temple but more towards my eye, a dull pain in between, a post nasal drip on the left side only, and every now and then my eye is a little watery.  It continued all day and subsided about 10 hours later.  Today has been the same.  I had no problems sleeping but the pain was the first thing I felt this morning.  This same thing happened to me maybe a year ago and maybe once before that, but I am not sure.  I read some articles on Web MD about CH and thought that was what I have.
Then I came here...  I read all of the accounts of the horrific pain that comes with CH and I must say my pain is no where remotely near that bad.  On your Kip scale the pains never goes higher than 4 (thank goodness).  I have never had one in the middle of the night and they don't make me want to end my own life.  In fact it's stabbing me right now as I'm typing this.  I read about the "shadows", but I'm not sure if this is them because they don't get any worse.
Thanks for reading and I hope that all of you go into permanent remission soon!

Hello and welcome,

Have you seen a Dr, that would be the first step there is lots of info around  here read all you can and I woud suggest taking the cluster quiz on the left of the screen if unfortunatly you find you fit in the CH catigory take whatever you can for info to your DR asap not much can be done without a proper diagnosis.

Sorry to here about your pain, take care of yourself and see a Dr soon,

Maureen

To me (I’m not a doctor) it sounds like chronic paroxysmal hemicrania (CPH).
Click this. It’s from under the ‘headache links’ button on the left side of your screen.
http://mhni.com/faqs_other_headaches.html#CPH

Also on the left side of your screen is a ‘cluster quiz’ button. Click it and take the test.
Let us know what you find out.

Pain sucks Period!!!

Look up these little buggers.........then go to the doctor!!!

paroxysmal hemicrania

SUNCT

ISH

Icepick HA

They all are tremendously painful but different then CH ...... the duration is MUCH less.....Kinda like Zaps!!! and tend to be responsive to Inomethacin and other NSAID's in that family.

Thank you so much for the responses.  Chronic paroxysmal hemicrania sounds like what is wrong with me.  I am still concerned, but extermely releaved!  I have been worried all day that what I am feeling will ecalate into the beast that I have read about here.  I am a little more at ease now.  Thank you so so very much!

GO to your doctor and ask for a trial of Indomethacin....It's like a super NSAID used for arthritis but helps alleviate HA's sucha as paroxysmal hemicrania or some of the others I mentioned.....

Of what you described being seconds apart Read more into Icepicks or SUNCT....also responsive to Indomethacin...

As far as "PH" being called CPH you have to reach a certain amount of time having any condition for it to be considered chronic so don't sweat it..

Go find relief and wishing you well.

Best to ya!

E.
