Title: Since I'm the new guy Post by Bmblb on Dec 8th, 2004, 2:01pm Just want to introduce myself, My friends call me "B". I just found this site and I'm glad to find people that can relate. I grew up with migrains, my Mom and her 6 sisters all have them so I know what I migrain is. When I was 19 I started having these headaches that weren't like anything I had ever know. I was in the military so I was sent to the clinic where brain scans were done, nothing was found but I was prescibed various meds fro aspirin to feorinal(sp), to codeine, nothing work. These lasted for several years and dissappeared for over 20 years. About a 1 1/2 years ago they were back, the demons of the night. My wife tries to understand but I usually get the " just try to relax speach". Last spring they came full force, 8 weeks followed by a 10 week episode. Everytime they would lighten up I prayed they were ending. Around June I realized the shadows had gone. Sept came and I had a short bout, nothing severe, I thought I lucked out, the devil doesn't play nice. It's been 2 weeks now with a peak on Wednesday the 1st. I have never missed work with these, but I should have that day, I don't think I was too nice of a person. A few of the people I work with know I get "headaches" but they must not be too bad because when they get bad ones they stay home in bed, yea right. Well I didn't mean to ramble but if I can't do it here I guess I can't do it anywhere, atleast you guys can relate. Thanks for letting me bend your ear. "B" |

Title: Re: Since I'm the new guy Post by EmpressJMB on Dec 8th, 2004, 2:14pm Hi "B"! Sorry you had to come looking but glad you found us. So....what do you do now for your headaches? Have you seen a neurologist and been officially diagnosed with cluster headaches? Please read the info to the left and get as much info as you can. There is help for (most) of us. I currently use Verapamil as a preventative and Imitrex when they break through anyway. Tell us more about yourself! There is alot of great info and people on this site. Feel free to bend our ears anytime. We all know how horrible this is and really understand. Best wishes for pain free days and nights! Janet |

Title: Re: Since I'm the new guy Post by Bmblb on Dec 8th, 2004, 2:42pm Hey there Empress, Thanks for the welcome, No I haven't seen any Doctors for over 20 years, I know, I should, but me and Doctors don't get along. My wife is actually the one that led me to the CH web sites, I have several on my favorites now. She found them and said, " you know, you don't seem to have migrains" I said "no ****, migraines don't hurt like this, I can calm migraines", she said she had read an article put out by the Mayo clinic on headaches and I had all the symptoms of CH's. I started reading everything I could, started logging episodes and everything fits. I did learn a valuable lesson though last week, make sure you are out of a cycle before drinking and eating certain trigger foods, atleast for me. It sounds strange but I like beer and chocolate, together, but that combo on a shadow day almost killed me, I was around a 3 on the Kip scale, had couple beers and a bag of peanut clusters(appropriate name) I jumped into a solid 9-10 for about an 1 1/2 hours. There is good news though, out of the last 3 days I have had Monday and Tuesday clear, unfortunately today is about a 3 but I can live with that. Here I go again, rambling. I type faster then I talk so I get carried away. I sit behind a computer 9 hours a day, I'm a design engineer so I draw all day. I'll try to check the other forums, maybe I can give others some insite or encouragement. Thanks again Janet, "B" |

Title: Re: Since I'm the new guy Post by firebrix on Dec 8th, 2004, 3:35pm Welcome B! Please, please check out the oxygen link at the left of your screen. Using this simple treatment has saved many people a whole lot of pain and it is a lot less harmful than many prescribed drugs. It doesn't work every time and should be used at the first inkling of a ha. for the best results but it does work most of the time. It is important to use a non-rebreather mask - it doesn't work as well without one. Hoping that this cycle ends soon for you and wishing you happier days firebrix |

Title: Re: Since I'm the new guy Post by nani on Dec 8th, 2004, 3:54pm Welcome B and sorry you're here. I definitely think you should see a headache specialist. There are treatments to help keep CH under control. Look around the boards here and at the OUCH site...lots of good info. Have your wife look around here, too. There are many wonderful supporters who can help her deal with it, too. Pain free wishes to you. |

Title: Re: Since I'm the new guy Post by cschick on Dec 8th, 2004, 4:58pm Welcome B. Sorry you are here but you have stumbled upon a great support group! There are some fabulous people here (watch out for Don though! [smiley=laugh.gif])! I tried o2 for the first time with this cycle and it has saved my LIFE! Last year I missed so much work because of the beast but this year only 3 days missed because of exhaustion of fighting the beast all night! READ as much as you can and give in and don't be a stubborn man and go to the Doctor!! Verapamil is a popular preventative for a lot of people (myself included)! Hope you find some relief soon!
