Title: Re: Any Moms out there that are sufferers? Post by firebrix on Oct 24th, 2004, 4:19pm Welcome MAKR2001! I saw that your post had not been answered and altho' I'm only a supporter I thought I'd let you know there are several mothers here who suffer CH. They all do a wonderful job of coping with families, work, home and CH but are probably doing that right now, cos it's the weekend. They'll be along soon to tell you how they cope. Have you been diagnosed by a neuro? (Good idea) Please read the oxygen therapy links on the left of your screen. With a non-rebreather mask and if you catch the ha. in its earliest stages, oxygen provides safe, effective relief fairly fast. You might also want to do a search on the meds used and learn about the triptan drugs like Imitrex. Being informed sure helps! So pleased you found this site where you will learn so much and receive help from people who know what you are experiencing. Taking one moment at a time helps when things get rough. I wish you a happy,pain-free day. Hang in there. Help's on the way! firebrix |

Title: Re: Any Moms out there that are sufferers? Post by cschick on Oct 24th, 2004, 4:46pm I am a Mom (6 year old boy - soon to be 7), work outside the home 45-50 hrs a week, wife and CH sufferer. I am in cycle right now but have been prescribed o2 - thank GOD! It has been a wonderful thing - able to abort almost every one within 15 minutes at 10LPM for about 10-15 minutes. I printed out the oxygen info on the link to the left and took it with me to my Dr. I don't like taking any type of medication but have been taking VerelanPM which is a form of verapamil. It has helped up to this weekend. I haven't gotten them during the day - I also suffer from migraines - but have gotten a couple during the day this weekend. O2 aborted it, but didn't think it was going to with this last one. You just learn to deal. I get up at 6am and don't fall into bed until almost 11pm every night only to be woke up 2-3 times each night to attack the o2 tank. I don't know how I do it, I just keep going. I think what you will find is a lot of us CHers are overacheivers. Maybe that is how we do it. Dunno. Feel free to message me if you need to talk! Karen |

Title: Re: Any Moms out there that are sufferers? Post by nani on Oct 24th, 2004, 5:35pm Hi - welcome- and so sorry you are here. :( I'm a Mom of 2 adult kids and a Grandma raising 2 grandkids- ages 11 and 8. Moms are truly amazing - never doubt that. How do we do it? We just DO. We have to don't we? I recently discovered that my kids think they cause my CHs.(look for the How Do you feel thread on the general board. My 8 yo wrote it) I think that hit me harder than any HA. I've been impatient with them when I'm getting hit and now realize how that has managed to hurt them. I'm a chronic with occasional severe episodes(in one now), so my kids have gotten used to me having headaches all the time. They have learned to give me space when I ask for it and be helpful when I need them to. Look at the medication survey on the left for meds. We are all so different it would be hard to recommend. It seems oxygen is the best abortive and verapamil is the most common prevent. Hang in there - this won't kill you...but like most of us it will probably make you wish that it would sometimes. Title: Re: Any Moms out there that are sufferers? Post by TxBasslady on Oct 25th, 2004, 2:02am Welcome to the board. I am Mom to 3 grown sons, and a grandmother to 8 fantastic grandchildren. I am retired, and didn't have CH till 2 1/2 years ago. Fortunately, my visits from the beast only come at night. My sons nor grandchildren have ever had to witness these visits. I really think your post is geared more towards younger Mom's than I, and those with children still at home. However, no matter our age.....CH is definitely a life altering experience. Melatonin....6mg. before bed...and 1 Excedrin Migraine tablet, has worked very well for me. Sometimes the CH breaks thru, but at least it has been quite manageable. When the CH reaches the unbearable stage, I take Frova. This has worked well for me also. Takes about 15 to 18 minutes, and the pain is gone. I'll take 18 minutes of pain anyday, instead of the normal hour to hour and half. Read all you can on this site. There is a valuable wealth of info here. You'll find great support, and make lots of friends. See if you can find a CH sufferer or supporter in your area, and make it a point to meet. There is nothing more rewarding than meeting another who suffers as you do. PF vibes, Jean |

Title: Re: Any Moms out there that are sufferers? Post by Valerie on Oct 25th, 2004, 12:36pm Hi, I am a mom of 2 small boys (almost 3 & 5) and I've been getting these ch's since I was 12. It is not easy, but we have no choice. Please give us some more information on what you've been doing, what your symptoms are, etc. I have found that I get the biggest hits at night and my kids haven't had to see them. They have seem me rolling on the floor in the morning - if my husband is around he takes care of them. I also work full time and there really is no time for these, but like I said, we have no choice but to deal with it. I have found that preventatives help - melatonin, verapamil, etc. and that abortives are my best friend - I personally like Zomig - Imitrex inject work miracles for a lot of people. The best thing is to get a good, knowledgable neuro and get a game plan. Please let us know how you're doing... Valerie |

Title: Re: Any Moms out there that are sufferers? Post by Ruth on Oct 29th, 2004, 10:46am Hi, I too am a Mom and Grandma of 5, I started CH's at 18 and am now 53, It was hard when the kids were babies and toddlers dealing with the headaches and the children. I had no meds then and we all got through it in one piece, but I don't no how, I guess by the grace of God. I feel for you and hope that you will get some help and try the O2, it seems to help alot of us and as stated before it is safe and doesn't zone you out as some meds can. As a mother of youngesters you no you can't take something that is going to knock you on your butt. To much to do and take care of. I would have to agree with the over achiever idea along with the idea we need to always be on top of things and giving a 100%, but you need to realize that there are times when we need nurturing too. Take care Ruth |

Title: Re: Any Moms out there that are sufferers? Post by marieinthesprings on Dec 17th, 2004, 5:04am Hi........I am a mom of a beautiful 5 yo daughter and a 2 yo son. I am in my first cycle since giving birth to my daughter. My son was with me about a week ago when i was hit with a nasty kip10, bless his little heart....He heard me cry and he said to me "mama cry, mama cry?" He was sitting on the floor at the time watching tv and I was on my hands and knees rocking. My mother was visiting at the time so my son went to find her and I could hear him say to her "Gramma, mama hurt". The two of them came back to me and my son sat with me until the beast could not handle the love I was getting from the 2 of them. My son kept saying "no cry mama" and he had his little arm around me and he kept kissing my head...I love him so much, just had to share it with you all.........pf wishes.........Marie |

Title: Re: Any Moms out there that are sufferers? Post by nani on Dec 18th, 2004, 11:53am I think she was the one who was offended when she said she was looking for Christian supporters and we told her it didn't matter about religion. Supporters are supporters. |
