Hi there agw,
You came to the right place. I don't know what meds you were on or wether you are episodic or chronic.     Explain your situation a bit more and you will find loads of help here.
There are a number of people here that deal with this thing w/o or with minimul medications and there are others that depend on the meds. Every situation is different and it is a personal choice.
Read about the Oxygen it is a great, med free way to get control of the pain.
Don't give up and don't let the pain control your life. There is no cure for CH yet, Sorry to say, but people live with it very successfully. The pain sucks. We all know that. Ask any questions you need answered. and you will find lods of support here.
Good Luck, read all you can and don't give up the fight.

Hiya agw.
Yup, we're listening.
Read up, try the different meds, but you'll find you CAN cope.  Some will work, some won't but you get stronger every time through.
SOME of the docs are decent.  Don't be afraid to fire the one you have and look for another.

You're doctor is WRONG! Oxygen most certainly can be prescribed by a doctor. And if you have clusters, it most certainly MUST be prescibed by your doc. You need to have the oxygen at home so you can get to it as soon as you feel a h/a coming on.

Waiting until you get to the ER to use oxygen will probably not be effective because too much time will have passed by the time you get to it. Even if you live right across the street from the hospital, there is a better than average chance that the oxygen will not be administered properly. In most cases, for oxygen to be effective for clusterheads it must be administered right at the onset of the attack, it must be delivered at high flow rate, and it must be delivered through a NON-REBREATHER mask for around 10 to 20 minutes. This is not a normal method for oxygen therapy.

If you are a long time cluster sufferer, you really must try the o2 therapy. I was amazed at how well it worked when I came to this site way back in February and learned how to use o2 properly. It is a godsend. You should demand this from your doctor or change doctors if necessary. Be sure to read about it under the button to your left.

High flow rate Oxygen delivered through a non-rebreather mask for 10-20 minutes = pain relief with no side effects. You gotta try it!
