Title: new to this
Post by tammy on Oct 1st, 2004, 8:56pm
Hi, I'm 30 years old, married with two children.  I have been diagnosed with cluster headaches recently.  I am very scared because this pain is so intense.  I gave birth to two babies weighing 8 and 9 pounds without a drop of pain medication, and this is WORSE!  I think my husband thinks I am overreacting.  The pain feels like an ice pick in my eye.  It looks like I've been in a fight or something because my eye swells shut.  I did read on here about the water thing, and I am trying that this afternoon.   I am on blood pressure meds once a day, but that doesn't really work.  I did have a shot in the hospital when I had my first attack, and that made me feel better for about six hours.  I don't know, I'm just happy I found this website.  I try so hard to carry on through the pain, but it hurts so bad I feel like I'm in a panic.  Anyway, I"m going to keep checking info on this website.  Thanks, Tammy

I haven't seen a doctor since my first cluster headache a couple months ago.  They did a brain scan and ruled out anything else.  Gave me blood pressure meds and pain meds and that was it.

Hi Tammy,
Pain meds dont work on these. Try getting in to see a neurologist. Study this site. O2 works . They seem to always try the least evasive meds at first. Beta blockers ect. Are you getting hit often? Is it usually when you relax? You may try caffeine to abort as a temporary fix. But this sometimes causes rebounds, hang in there, check out the OUCH site, there is a good print out there that describes the extent of the pain show it to your husband. More pain than one could describe. Hang in there...your not alone.

Tammy,

There is alot of help here if you ask for it or look for it. I am here at different times throughout the day, just kind of looking around, and learning... Oddly enough My doc didn't tell me much of anything about CH.  I am not nearly as expereinced as most of these folks in here but I can tell you this the more time you spend in here the better ( mentally) I feel... Hoping that you get the same out of it I have.

Welcome Tammy!  Ditto what cwp2002 said.  I haven't been here long either but it's helped alot knowing there's others.  I can't think of anything you need to know that you can't find here or links from here.  Best of Luck and PFDAN to you!  Janet  :)

Thank you, and I appreciate the support already.  Just communicating with others about this is a relief for me.  Yes, this website is very educational also.  I think I'm going to ask my doctor to look at the info here.  :)

Hi,

The blood pressure meds (i think you mean verapamil) are normally taken in 2 or 3 pills a day. And it starts to work after a week or 10 days.

When you look at the box, how many mg are they?
