Title: Hello Post by DebiH on Sep 24th, 2004, 1:14pm Hi everyone. I've been suffering with headaches for a long time, but I'm so glad to know that what I have actually has a NAME. I thought I just had a lot of headaches that happened at the same time everyday for some weird reason. My current bout has been for the past 23 days, and there seems to be no end in sight. I did finally break down and make a dr appt. so I'm anxious to see her today. She''l probably tell me to take a tylenol and rest...gee, how effective. It's probably somewhat stress related...my mother just got out of the hospital and my 14 year old daughter is in the process of getting a kidney transplant. Anyway, glad to know I'm not nuts or alone. Debi H. |

Title: Re: Hello Post by lionsound on Sep 24th, 2004, 2:48pm Hi Debi ! Welcome... it sounds like you have alot on your plate right now. It's smart to get yourself to a doc. I hope that the doctor you're going to see is a neurologist or can refer you to one for proper diagnoisis and treatment. Look at the links and info, and take the quiz to the left and that will be helpful to you as well. It's also a good idea to keep a headache diary. Curious...what have you tried for them before? Hope your pain ends soon, -Lionsound |

Title: Re: Hello Post by yikes_another_one on Sep 24th, 2004, 7:43pm Stress -- Doctors love to blame iton stress, but I have a very loving and supportive family. I am blessed that even in dire straits, they come through for me. I live life with a safety-net.... and have very little stress. (Unless I am just in denial over it...lol) I have a great life, and low stress level.... and still get these frig-in CH's. Stress may be cause by the headaches.... dealing with the pain, the time off work, Stress may be a factor, but for me, it is low on the totem pole.... Good luck. Remember to take some of the website info with you to the appointment. even just a few links for them to research.....lol |

Title: Re: Hello Post by BobG on Sep 24th, 2004, 8:03pm Hi Debi. You're not nuts and you're not alone. If you do have cluster headaches don't let the doctor get away with "Oh, it's just stress, relax" or "Tylenol should take care of the pain". You need to get an abortive such as Imitrex and pure oxygen and a preventative such as Verapamil. There's lots of information under the buttons on the left side of your screen. Read, read, read and become educated about the condition. Sorry to hear about your daughter. A prayer is being sent from our home to yours. Note to yikes_another_one.......... My theory is that stress does not cause or trigger clusters. It's the lack of stress. It is the relaxing after stress that brings them on. |

Title: Re: Hello Post by DebiH on Sep 27th, 2004, 12:12pm So here's the update -- I went to the dr on Friday and she actually spent a considerable amount of time with me....unusual, especially in the HMO community. So she came to the conclusion that she believed I suffer from classic migraines (??? - no nausea, sensitivity to light, etc., but OK I'll take it as long as she can make it stop). She called the nurse in and had them give me an Imitrex injection and IT WORKED!!! I got a Rx for the Imitrex pills and I am HOPING I don't have to use them for a while. 3 weeks is just tooooooooo long to have a headache & I'm enjoying my "freedom". It's kinda weird....I get these little twangs of pain and then it dissipates fairly quickly. Is the Imitrex long lasting? |

Title: Re: Hello Post by Ronny on Sep 27th, 2004, 3:59pm Hi Imitrex (injection) is an abortive, it kills the pain (for some) but doesnt last. I dont really know how long it lasts but i think it's about 30 minutes. Ronny. |

Title: Re: Hello Post by thebbz on Sep 28th, 2004, 10:12pm hey there , Glad the trex worked, it works for migraine and CH. No referral to a neuro!!?? the twinges may or may not be what we call shadows. For me the trex injection 6ml.works for 10 to 12 hours , this varies with all. Only proper diagnostic testing and a neurologist will be able to get the diagnosis ,even then the right neuro is hard to find. I have a good one , but I think there is a list of suggested ones around here somewhere. Knowledge is power, study . BB |
