Post by darth_banks on Aug 24th, 2004, 6:17pm
hello out there my name is chris i have been a clusterhead for 12 years now i'm currently in a cycle right now and i'm at my wits end i hate these thing they are killing my body because of the shots (imetrex) we have to take as of the past couple of years my cycle has changed i used to get these in the spring then in the fall now its in the summer i have at least 2 a day. i have to take lithium and now prednizone.for the past few days i've had a total of about 20-25 headaches so you see my pain. does anyone out there hvae the same problems when you'r on the lithium and drink caffinated thing it cancels the lithium? does drinking liqure bring on baaad headaches? i don't know how long i can take thes i want to rip out my eye but i'm afraid that the pain will still be there. well thanks for being there you guys know how it is.

Darth, sorry you had to find us, but glad you did.

Alcohol is a definite no-no for most of those in cycle. If I smell a beer when I'm in cycle I will get an attack.

Have you tried oxygen? Read about it under the menu button to the left of the screen. O2 is a very effective aborting agent for a majority of us, but it must be used correctly for it to work. The idea is to breath high flow rate oxygen through a non-rebreather mask at the very onset of an attack. For me, it completely aborts over 80% of my attacks in 10-12 minutes. With this treatment, if it is effective for you, you can cut down on the amount of imitrex needed for aborting. Save the imitrex for the few attacks that o2 doesn't work on.

Read as much as you can here, there is lots of good information, as well as good support for what you are going through.

Welcome to clusterville.

Hi there,

Cycles can change, i know, mine have.

About the lithium: i dont know, i dont take it.

Drinking alcohol can definitely start a HA, but not for everyone.

It's a good place you came to, read all you can, you will learn a lot, i know i did.

    Ronny.

Dude, lose the alcohol.  Make a choice pain vs. alcohol.  It will absolutely just kill me to have any kind of alcohol whatsoever.

My cycle has changed too.  I was like you, spring and fall.  This summer has been a real M.F. for a lot of us.  Gotta agree with FZfan, Imitrex does (in my case) abort individual attacks but seems to prolong the cycle.  I'm going on 14 weeks now.

ditto...I found this out VERY earlier!  I don't think I've had so much as three beers since I was age 19 (and I'm 45 now!)

Not to say I'm a saint  ;) but alcohol is the one SURE thing that will put me into a Kip 9 before I finish the first drink!

Wish everything else that did that to me was as easy to identify!

Hang in there...chris...wishing you PFD's

thanks for responding you guys. and yes i have tried o2 in the early and once in the late 90's it did nothing for me. i've take alot of stuff first it was feriset (spelling?), that did nothing, then midren that worked for about 2 years then stoped, then it was some sterroid that began with a b then back on the midren because it seemed to work the longest, now i take lithium and imitrex shots, and i tried the pills but nothing also the lidicane drips yeah these suck but i am happy to report i've been p.f. for 48 whole hrs. so thats cool my h.a. were so bad and frequent that they started me on a prednisone taper. well got to go hope to chat soon.

Welcome!  :D

Try the O2 again and make sure you do it right: non-rebreather mask, 100%, 12-15 LPM for 10-20 minutes and check out the oxygen info link over <- there.

And remember NO alchohol, No naps!
