Title: Is forgiveness really important? Post by burnt-toast on Dec 22nd, 2005, 9:58am In his Sunday sermon, a preacher went to great length to stress the need to "Forgive One’s Enemies", to his congregation. At points in he sermon he stopped to ask how many in the congregation had resolved to forgive their enemies. The first time he asked about half held up their hands. So he continued his sermon. The second time he asked about 80% held up hands. Again he continued his sermon. The third time he asked all but one sweet elderly lady held up their hands. "Mrs. Johnson, why do you choose to not forgive your enemies?", he asked. "Because I have no enemies", Mrs. Johnson replied. "Mrs. Johnson I find that unusual and vary hard to believe, How old are you?", inquired the preacher. "Ninety-three," she replied. "That’s wonderful Mrs. Johnson, please come down in front and tell the congregation how someone your age managed their life so well as to not have an enemy in the world”, said the preacher. The little sweetheart of a lady slowly tottered down the aisle and facing the rest of the congregation said, "It’s easy, you just need to figure out how outlive every miserable bitch and son of a bitch you’ve ever known!” Tom |
