hey ch heads,
does anyone else have muscle tension and shoulder/neck pain for days after a ch?

Sure as eggs I do - before, during and after.

Now ask me if it's a cause or the result and I can answer honestly and without fear of contradiction, "Dunno".

yup.

but who knows which causes which. In a bad HA run there's not much time in between to have much of an after, or before.

Every time...I tried a chiropractor seemed to make it worse. I Do streching.... sever steching during attacks and jab rock hard ice packs into the back of my neck .Laying on a wooden ball along certian spots along the spine seems to loosen the knots up. but yeah everytime...... it sucks bad.

Yep me too. I cop it in the neck the most...

I wonder if it's cos we (or at least I) tense up soooo much during a hit??

Always my neck on the cluster side. It's like the tendons shrink and I need to stretch and stretch.

Yep right there with you...feel it in my neck shoulder and little in clavical on my left side...My warning and there after..

Me Three! A few minutes before, during and after......after a hit I take a hot shower with the hot water hitting my neck and then I lay down on a heated messaging pad and fall back to sleep....I wake in the morning with no stiff neck!

Me four

When I get up to a 5,6 level, I'm sitting upright in a straight back chair with both hands pressing my head as hard as possible. My back, shoulders, neck and head are ramrod straight and I rock back and forth from hips up. Above a 6 level, I'm pacing, but still ramrod straight. After the hit, everything is stiff and sore for hours, and my arms feel like they're going to fall off from the shoulder. :-/

Yea I do and I think its caused by the way we hold our heads durning a cluster and the fact we are all tensed up. I will tell you what to do for it. Take two excedrin Tension Headache tablets at the on set of your cluster, it won't help the cluster but it will help the neck pain. You might find it a little harder to sleep because it has lots of caffeen in it. But it works. If you take it in the moring it helps you stay awake and helps get rid of that tired feeling a cluster leaves behind from not much sleep. Works for me try it.

I have the muscle tenseness in my neck and shoulders too...my neuro seems to think because I have bad discs in my neck this may be contributing to the chs....seems like my neck stays stiff all the time, the worse it gets, the more I get hit with chs....What a friggin mess! smiles,nancyc

Yep same here neck,shoulder & back of head.

I'm not one for taking prescription meds but I use a product made in Aust by Metagenics it's called Kaprex , it's made from dried olive leaf 50mg, rosemary 2.6g and hops 1.5g.
It's a natural anti-inflammatory thats kind on the gut and organs and works pretty well for me.

Major in the neck on cluster side and shoulders and back. However, even though he offers, I don't want my husband doing any massage during a hit or right after-too tender.

Pain in the neck/shoulder. Starts a couple of minutes after the cluster, stops a few minutes later. Doesn´t hurt at all, while I don´t have an attack...

when i'm in cycle i have a permanent muscle 'knot' in my right shoulder during a hit i too sit/stand ramrod straight when the hit is calming down i tend to do stretches and deep breathing exercises which give me a few minutes of relief from this tension
