Title: Re: Craving salt? Post by stevema on Sep 25th, 2005, 9:41am well, i am not a scientist either but exercise, chemicals in body, pancreas? Sodium, calcium, potassium, their bonding, uptake etc... maybe something there? And I got this : Somatostatin reduces the duration and intensity of cluster headaches. from here http://www.emedicine.com/EMERG/topic229.htm what is this? Like I posted elsewhere, it's my head, no, my neck, no my stomach, no my nerves, no my hypothalamus, no, wait....who the hell knows !!!? But the answer is out there guys, we just gotta find it. At any rate, we can do it, let's figure this out, I got a PF life to go live ! |

Title: Re: Craving salt? Post by floridian on Sep 25th, 2005, 6:26pm Many researchers have suggested that part of the disease is a malfunction or mutation in ion-pumps in the cells. Too much of one ion inside cells, not enough outside. Also, magnesium tends to be low in clusterheads and migraneurs. Cravings are not always specific - people with vitamin deficiencies eat weird things, and a craving for salty things may not indicate a sodium or chloride defficiency. http://www.med-owl.com/clusterheadaches/tiki-index.php?page=Magnesium |

Title: Re: Craving salt? Post by debpa on Sep 30th, 2005, 9:42am My husband is back in cycle now and his neuro tells him that his sodium levels are very low. This has happened before when he was in cycle. I can't say that he is "craving" salt but I know that he likes to have the salt shaker handy at every meal. His neuro doesn't know why his levels drop each time. Sometimes I think that there are more mysteries to this condition than there are answers. |
