Title: Re: PLEASE HELP,I think DEPACOTE is killing my buz Post by unsolved1 on Sep 19th, 2005, 7:07pm I agree with the others ... if the headaches have stopped, think about tapering down and quitting altogether. As a general rule, if you believe a med is causing any unwanted side effects, consult with a doctor as soon as possible. Goodluck UNsolved |

Title: Re: PLEASE HELP,I think DEPACOTE is killing my buz Post by millie the episodic on Sep 19th, 2005, 9:35pm Sometimes I think we give the drs too much authority. :-/The drs. can only tell you about the side effects that has been reported to them. [smiley=huh.gif] And we all know that different meds interact differently and they also affect people differently. If something is causing more problems that it is fixing, I don't think you need a dr to tell you to GET OFF OF IT. :-XIf his headaches are gone get him off the meds so his body can rest from that, then he will be more able to deal with his other issues, hell the meds may be his issue. :o Call the neuro and tell them you are taking him off the Depacote, but use your heart, who knows him better than you. I'm sorry Buzz is going through this. I'm even more sorry that you're having to go through even more. :( I agree with the others about getting off the Depakote, if he's not in cycle now. Maybe the other doctors can get him to do so. I'm sending prayers and vibes for both of you. Keep us posted, OK? hugs, nani |

When was the last time he had any liver function tests done??? With this med he should have them a MINIMUM Of every six months. If the clusters are gone because the cycle has ended, and he has no cluster activity at all to remind him he is still in cycle but its being blunted by the Depakote, he should taper off it IMHO. If its no longer needed to regulate his system to treat clusters, then its all its doing is f*c*ing with systems that would normally be properly functioning. Many docs like cluster patients to stay on their meds during the off-cycle times just so they don't have to suffer through a build up to therapeutic levels when the cycle begins again. Sort of a primer course. Again, in my honest opinion, this med is way to dangerous and mind/body altering to stay on it during the off-cycle times. Although depression is not one of the major worries directly attributed to depakote, the related side effects that ARE directly related are enough to make a man/woman want to lay down and cry or tear pictures off a wall. Please check out this link... http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/dival_ad.htm and read it and then click on the "Warnings and Precautions" link near the top of the page. Read it carefully, print it out and circle all the applicable side effects that he may be experiencing......and call the doc. If he hasn't had a liver function test for more than 6 months.....DEMAND ONE, ASAP. And that goes for the rest of you on Depakote too....I don't want to find anyone here on a liver transplant message board. :'( I already have one friend that has to be constantly monitored due to depakote induced liver damage. Snook, I'm sorry if I am scaring you but I really hate this med. >:( Bobw |
