I have a question for the general forum peeps here. I get CH, it's why I come here. But even when I don't have a CH going on, I have some sort of severe headache. It's a 24/7 thing, and varies from 1 up through around 7 on the Kip scale. ANd on top of that is the CH fun. Anyone else have something like this going on?

There are several people that have multiple HA types in addition to CH.

I have CH and idiopathic stabbing headache (icepick ha)

Can you describe what your going through?

You could have a migrainous headache or some other type. that may need different/additional treatment.

How long have you had this other headache?

I get more than on kind of HA as well and I have a general rule of thumb:
If it's new or different for you, get it checked out.

please at least call your doctor/neuro to talk about it.

Lion, these have ALWAYS been present, and yes, my neuro's know about ALL my HA. I make sure they know about EVERYTHING that goes on with me.

The non-CH headaches are with me almost always. They often keep me up at night (although they won't normally wake me up, unlike a CH) and will often peak and lead into a CH attack. It's normal for me to wake up with a pain level 3 HA and spend the day at 3 - 4 before coming home to get worse or haev a CH. It is quite exhausting sometimes, and not just from sleep loss. My primary neuro (Dr. Raskin) isn't concerned about these "auxillary" HA's, he feels that when he gets teh CH under control they will fall to the side as well. And it is certainly true that when I was on the Verapamil and it was working pretty well, these did decrease significantly, as did the CH attacks.

I was just wondering if others had similar experiences with their HA's. I'm sorry to say that it seems to be so.

I'm so sorry that you have other HAs, too... :(

I've had all sort of HAs all my life. I'm officially diagnosed as a ch and migraine sufferer. "Luckily" for me, during the last few years ch dominated my head so much that the rest HAs have decided to leave me alone. I do have regular migraine occasionally and odd HA from being too tired, but that's it.

I did have HA for 24/7 for 6 days when I first started topamax treament in spring 2004. And once I had HAs on my forhead, which my neuro later on concluded that it could have been some sort of infection.

I hope that you'll find meds which help with your HAs. Soon!

And did the topomax start or help with the other HA's? I 've been on topomax, and I didn't notice anything at all. But the way you write that, it's like the topomax made them worse.

I tend to get a variety of mild to moderate headaches during my cluster cycle as well as begining about 2 weeks before my cycle arrives (no migraines). When I'm not in or near cycle however, I NEVER have any.

I get hit 16 hours a day. I get 8 ha 1 1/2 hours long. At a kip 10. Then it lowers to kip-2-5 for a half hour and then it goes back to a kip 10. You may be describing what many of us call shadows. You should be able to do some research in the archives on shadow ha. good luck.
