Title: Colds and CH? Post by Sandy_C on Jul 28th, 2005, 8:16am Question - my regular cycle began 2/17, ended at end of April - only on right side. PF whole month of May. First of June, started CH on left side - much milder and no real pattern, but definitely CH. Those ended early July, and have been PF since. Caught a lovely head cold and for the last three days, have been having the ice picks on the left side of my face - temple, scalp. These are very sharp picks and very annoying - hard enough to make me flinch and hold my breath for a second, hurts to brush my hair. I've tried asprin, excedrin, and Aleve, none of which has stopped the picks. Do you think the nerves are still tender from the CH and that the cold has aggravated them, or could this be a bad omen that another round is coming? What would you recommend that I take to stop the picks. I don't want to take my trex. Thanks for any info anyone might have. Sandy |

Title: Re: Colds and CH? Post by Kim Y. on Jul 28th, 2005, 8:25am High Sandy sorry that you are having a ruff time right now. [smiley=hug.gif] What meds besides Trex do you take? Hint to avoid the trex try to get O2 if you don't have it. Get into see the Dr. and take info. from the left as far as what meds to try. I take Verap. O2 and trex as a last resort. Can't tell you what is going on but prepare yourself just in case. PF wishes to you real soon....Kim |

Title: Re: Colds and CH? Post by lionsound on Jul 28th, 2005, 10:06am Hi Sandy, have you had ice picks before? I would call your doctor about the new HA's. If they are ice picks then usually a daily preventative of indocin can take care of them. Indocin is an NSAID(non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) same class of meds as Aleve. please call you doc! be well and PF, lionsound |

Title: Re: Colds and CH? Post by nani on Jul 28th, 2005, 11:12am Sandy, colds and sinus infections can trigger me. The best thing is to keep the congestion and pressure to a minimum. Be careful with nose blowing, though. It can also trigger. :-/ Feel better soon sweetie...lots of liquids, get some rest. hugs, nani |

Title: Re: Colds and CH? Post by Sandy_C on Jul 28th, 2005, 1:53pm ;)Thanks to all. I also with to thank my wonderful employer, who upon returning from an extended vacation in Europe, picked up this sweet little virus on the airplane. Along with his thanks to me for taking care of business in his absence, he gave me this lovely little present. (Wonder if I can be an Indian giver?) ;;D |

Title: Re: Colds and CH? Post by Topical on Jul 29th, 2005, 6:41pm Have you tried Advil Gelcaps before? Those knock down most of my regular headaches. They come in a squishy blue capsule. I hope you get over ther cold and the pain soon. |

Title: Re: Colds and CH? Post by E-Double on Jul 29th, 2005, 7:23pm Ditto Lionsound......... If having "icepicks".....ask doctor about indocin. It might just be coincidence that they are occuring along with a cold. If so then welcome to the multiple HA club. Those zaps are a bitch but very managable. Good luck Eric |

Title: Re: Colds and CH? Post by marty on Jul 30th, 2005, 5:59am Hi Sandy I don't like colds - not because they are a pain in the butt all by themselfs, but my cycle always starts after I have a cold. Take Lionsounds advice as to the Indocin, it may help you. Marty |

Title: Re: Colds and CH? Post by Sandy_C on Jul 30th, 2005, 10:02am As the cold is getting a little bit better, the picks seem to be diminishing as well (except at night). Hopefully, a good sign. I sure hope that a stupid head cold will NOT trigger another cycle. If so, this will be the worst year ever for my cycles. I've been PF for just a little over 30 days since Feb 17. Is Indocin the same thing as Indomethican? If so, my hubby has a scrip for 50mg caps, which we have bunches of. Maybe I'll just "borrow" a couple of his. |

Title: Re: Colds and CH? Post by E-Double on Jul 30th, 2005, 10:09am Yes Indocin is the same as indomethacin. Although it does not help ME with the CH it does certainly alleviate the zaps that I get. Keeps them away for most part. Good luck :) |
