Title: Vibrating eyeballs
Post by ckelly181 on Jul 27th, 2005, 10:40pm
Hey,

Im just starting a new cycle (yippee  :() and had a really odd one today. I was using O2 to abort (got to about a KIP 5, so I was still doing okay).

All was going fine, and then I got really light-headed and my eyeballs started to vibrate back and forth! It lasted for about 10 minutes - but I kept sucking O2 because I didn't want to resort to a shot.

Kinda freaked me out - but the pain subsided and my eyes finally calmed down.

Any idea about what was going on? Has anyone had that happen before?

Thanks,

Chris

Maybe someone else will weigh in with an experience like this.  I'm not a doctor and it may be nothing, but it sounds like a seizure of some type.  In any case it would probably be wise to cover this one with your Doc.

Chris,

the "really light-headed" part could be due to hyperventilation. If you are huffin' and puffin' really hard, you lose too much carbon dioxide, and from that get a dizzy feeling. Try to breathe at a normal rate while on oxygen, you'll get enough of it.

FWIW... (stoopid things you do when you're a kid... probably part of the reason I ain't right in the head...)

Following up on what Ueli said... Did you ever hyperventilate yourself when you were a kid?  When I did, I got this feeling in my eyes and my teeth... that the nerves were vibrating.  I know, it sounds strange (and it is strange), but I'm serious.

Between doing that and purposely spinning around and around until puking.... it was a rough childhood   :D
(BTW... snorting pepper and eating soap ain't fun).  LOL, as kids we did anything for kicks.

Hi Chris,

Sorry to hear of the cycle start for you.  Hope the visit is short and you can kick its butt out of orbit past the space station before school starts again.
Get a good breathing routine down and I hope you have all you need to get through this with minimal hits Chris.

:)

I'm happy to folks more familiar with the ole' O2 have been able to give some viable explainations.  Never thought of hyperventalation.

Thanks, guys - the hyperventilating makes sense. It was one of my first hits, so I'm still in the @#$^%$#% phase of this cycle, trying to steel myself and not panic when the shadows start.

I'll bet I was breathing too heavy...I'll watch that.

:)
