Title: Nurse says "so, you have migraines.."
Post by Leggs on Jul 12th, 2005, 7:13pm
UGH!  I still have no appointment with a neuro, been working on it, what a month now?  I had one with one neuro who had no experience with facial nueralgia I was diagnosed with, and THEN, THEY cancelled it when I told them I had been in a car wreck, an said he would refer me to an orthopedic guy.

I called up a different department I was told to call, I was told to fax info to the neurology department.  I called after not hearing from me, they can't find the records I had faxed up there, the phone number I originally had just a couple weeks ago had been changed.

They finally find my records, and say they are giving it to the nurse practioner, and they call back today, and want to send me to an orthopedic person????  I said my major complaint was HEAD PAIN!!!!!  and she reads over my record, and says "Well, you have a history of migraine," and I said NO a history of cluster headaches, and they are NOT the same, and she says. "Okay, then clusterheadaches," and I could just picture her rolling her eyes with the tone of voice.  Ugh!  BTW, the pain specialist cancelled my appointment for today, rescheduled for next Friday, I just wanted to talk to someone about O2!  Why do doctors yank you around like this!!!???  don't they get PAID enough????? I am just so sick of this bull$hit...

I am going to go back to my internal medicine guys.  They originally referred me up there to a headache specialist, and then THAT practice cancelled the appointment.  I tried to follow the advice of the place that cancelled my appointment, to fax my records to the neurology department for a referral, but THAT was ridiculous.

It's just going to be better to let the doctor's offices duke this out, and hopefully, I will eventually end up in the right place!

I think they just don't get it, that I can SPEAK so I must not be that bad off, you know?  They are just lucky to catch me in a lucid moment.  If I were in the middle of a cluster, I am totally incoherent, because I stutter.  Maybe I could call them back during a CH, and I would get more action.  No, they would probably have me carted off to a loony bin... :-/

Do you have general practitioner? I would go through him to arrange the appointment with the correct person. A general practitioner you've been seeing for years gets pissed off when their patients are being treated like you are.

I swear, if I was you I would like to see my file when I am taken in. I bet there is some crap in there that is the cause of this confusion. One doc makes a prognosis and the others read that. Until you get it corrected you are going to have them saying you need an ortho doc.

I don't know about how you were on the phone, but if you got angry they will not help you out more. They will push you to the back of the line. You seem angry justifiably but it doesn't help when you are one of a thousand customers. They've got you and they know it.  :-/

Did you try to get an earlier appointment?
You can try to talk to someone in patient relations or is this a small office?

As above, my dear.

Let your GP's office schedule the appointment, fax your records, etc.  And, if you hve a good relationship with your GP, can't he/she prescribe the O2?

I stopped going to my neuro after my second cycle.  Just took the "Future Drugs" article to my doc and said "I trust you.
Can't we do this without a specialist this time?"  We did.  He trusts the info I bring him, and I trust him to do right.  Haven't been back to the neuro since.  Last cycle was the shortest and easiest ever (if there's such a thing).

If my cycles change or become different, I might change my thinking, but I still think your GP can be helping you alot while you wait.

Hugs and PF Wishes,

Kris

I had a similar experience trying to set up an appointment with a Neuro.  they pushed me out 6 weeks which was unacceptable.  I tried to work with them but it wasn't going to happen.

I asked for the name/number of the patient advocate and told them that my next call was going to be to the Board of Medical Practice.  I got a call back from the Neuro within the hour who spent 45 minutes on the phone with me and called in prescriptions for Verapmil and Indomethacin.

Sometimes you just have to push and be an not a very nice person to get what you need.  Don't be afraid to report them to the licensing board in your state.  Chances are if you are having a problem with "the runaround", others are too.

Dealing with docs...  ::)

I don't miss that a bit! Be firm, though. Calm and firm. That got me an emergency appointment with my fully booked neuro once! ;;D

I know how tough it can be with neuros.
Good luck. :)

IF IT WERE NOT FOR MY GP DURING THESE ATTACKS FROM HELL, WHAT WOULD I DO!
I has an appointment with my neuro yesterday, after working a 12 hr, midnight shift. My daughter had to drive me, as I have had no sleep in days. We were 10 mins. late, and they refused to see me. :'(
It was all that I could do to come to grips with what the receptionist was saying to me, because I have been being mistreated by the beast day and night for over a week and all I want to do is see the DAMN doctor, because I have an appointment. >:(
If I had been 10 minutes earlier, would they have saw me at 10:00, no, maybe about 10:30, so what is the difference. I'll tell you what the difference is, they are the ones with the pad and pen we need to get what we need to make it through until remission. :'(
So go to your GP and see if they can help you or referr you to someone else. That is what I think I need to do, because when you are going through, the last thing you need is for a doctor to think that they are more than they are, you just need someone to help you. Isn't that their job, to try an help you [smiley=huh.gif]
Good Luck, you are not alone
