Title: nasal surgery not cure all! Post by bigred on Jun 18th, 2005, 4:48pm Hey guys just letting you all know I had the nasal surgergy and it went fine and I can breath better and smell better. It was a rough couple weeks after the surgery but all is fine now. It had no effect on stopping my headaches. Another effort crossed off my list, but Ill keep trying ;;D As for my Ch, Im still in cycle when I go to bed mostly and we are going back to a 10 day prednezone taper down to stop it. The doc is also going with a stepped up dose of topamax, something we have not tried yet. All this is on top of the verapimil I take daily. And any imitrex I need to use to stop the beast Thank god for insurance ;) Does any one take close to the same regimite of presciptions, and what helped you the most. Thanks BigRed |

Title: Re: nasal surgery not cure all! Post by Redd715 on Jun 18th, 2005, 6:16pm I've done the exact regimine you are now. Pred taper, on verap and dopymax, Imitrex as needed to abort. Lets just say my BP didn't fair well (dropped through the floor was more like it) with the verap, I was dumb as a box of rocks from the topomax, everything looked tastey to include small cities and compact cars from the pred. On the up side, the hits were fewer and a less intense, and the imitrex took care of those. However due to the adverse side effects I had to go off the topomax, which increased the frequency, lower the verap which increased intensity. Thus I was using more imitrex, more than I should. Oh the things we do to try to find relief. :( |

Title: Re: nasal surgery not cure all! Post by Lizzie2 on Jun 19th, 2005, 3:23pm Even though ya can't really count on the nasal surgery as a major help for the clusters, don't give up toooooo soon. It can take up to a year for the sinuses/nose to fully heal. When was your surgery again? This time around, my first one was March 8 and my 2nd was April 19 (I think). I still feel like I have this horrible smell in my nose...like the smell of something rotting... I can't get rid of it....to the point where that smell is stronger than anything else, pleasant or unpleasant. I vaguely remember having this after my nose surgery 8 years ago, but I can't remember if it was exactly the same. I just used to joke because when we did cat dissections in biology about 2 years after that surgery, the smell of formaldehyde didn't bother me in the least because it wasn't stronger than the smell I had in my nose from the surgery. Ah well....I still can't breathe from mine very well. But the left side was sooooo blocked. I have to get back to the ENT once I start work because I have no schedule yet. I'm glad you are breathing better! If nothing else, that probably makes it worth it! Lizzie :) |

Title: Re: nasal surgery not cure all! Post by Jasen on Jun 19th, 2005, 4:44pm Red, was the surgery for Synalga or a differnt preoblem. I'm still waiting to hear if I might have Synalga. My daily regament of meds. is 50 mg. of Verapamil twice, 75 mg. of Indomethecain. for minor sinus infection, 50 mg. of Amoxacillin 3 times and couple sprays of Rhinocort. Melatonen and Oxy. Haven't need the O2 in about 2 weeks now. Man, my bedroom likes like 98 year old mans room, with all the meds. and O2 bottles :-/ [smiley=laugh.gif] |

Title: Re: nasal surgery not cure all! Post by bigred on Jun 24th, 2005, 11:12am lizzie, It was irrigation vigorouisly with salt and baking soda that will clean the sinusis out so you can get that bitter taste and smell out. You can not irrigate enough after surgery to keep the clots and mucus from hardening and decaying. Thanks for the help guys. big red |

Title: Re: nasal surgery not cure all! Post by duerrs on Jul 12th, 2005, 7:03pm i'm glad i read this, my ent told me that he wants to operate on me. I have a very bad deviated ceptum (sorry about the spelling jonny. want to build a car or a computer or rewire your house, i can help for sure, want to write an english paper, call someone else.....LOL) that could be causing my ch's. he told me that having the surgery could help but he would not make any promises. i was afraid that having the surgery is going to make them worse. after reading this, i think i'm going to leave my nose alone, hey, i don't even snore according to my wife so the hell with it. |

Title: Re: nasal surgery not cure all! Post by burnt-toast on Jul 13th, 2005, 4:23am My wife is really pushing this one but I haven't found anything that supports it. In general I've found more reference to nasal and dental surgery as failed attempts to cure the chronic pain because patients were not properly diagnosed with CH before they submitted to surgery.
