Lisa Kudrow's dad is a clusterhead. He's famous in his own right for his scholarly pursuits.

uh, don't think so.  Lee Kudrow was a pioneering neurologist (now retired) in search of a cure for cluster and his son, David, continues in his footsteps.  But I don't think Dr. Kudrow was a sufferer himself, though.  He did discover the lidocaine therapy though.

Maybe Thomas Jefferson.

Upon reaching majority in 1764, Jefferson came to inherent the 2,750 acres of land left him by his father. In this way he officially entered into Virginia society. And while Jefferson spent significant time amongst his elders, he also made acquaintances with his contemporaries. He shared rooms near the college for an extended period with John Tyler, father to the eventual eleventh President of the United States. In addition, an early disappointment in love came during this period, when he unsuccessfully attempted to court a highly sought-after sixteen-year-old by the name of Rebecca Burwell. With the frustrations that accompanied his failure in this regard came the first of many severe migraine headaches that would sporadically plague him throughout his adult life.

Although now that it will come up on google that unconfirmed sources (the earlier post) say he does, Joe Perry does not have clusters.

From Max (in the movie Pi):

Quote:
When I was a little kid my mother told me not to stare into the sun. So once when I was six, I did. The doctors didn't know if my eyes would ever heal. I was terrified, alone in that darkness. Slowly daylight crept in through the bandages, and I could see, but something else had changed inside of me. That day I had my first headache.
Failed treatments to date: Beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, adrenalin injections, high dose ibuprofen, steroids, Trager Mentastics, violent exercise, cafergot suppositories, caffeine, acupuncture, marijuana, Percodan, Midrine, Tenormin, Sansert, homeopathics. No results. No results...

no really, i overheard some special on tv this morning about hemingway and it mentioned that his father suffered from "severe" headaches which was a contributing factor to his dour outlook and subsequent suicide (after he noted the tingling in his feet -- being a diabetic he knew things weren't looking good for his future). Then read something later that Ernest himself also suffered from severe headaches (among other issues obviously).

RE:- MAX COHEN

RUMOUR CONTROL
>
Max Cohen is a real living legend in computer science, the renegade
number theory genius who dropped out of Columbia ten years ago and
has built a big homemade supercomputer in his apartment in NY Chinatown.

His mission is to predict movements in the NY Stock Exchange.
Cohen believes that  any  system complex
enough to be "chaos" must have a natural order within it, and that
this order can be cracked by number theory. I've heard he is getting close.

His senior thesis, in which he proposed the idea, was published by
Horizon and became a sort of collector's item and running joke among
Wall Street types. But last year, a stockbroker at Lancet-Percy somehow got
hold of some of Cohen's stock picks and played the market with them...just
before the big Asian downturn last year. Butterfly effect? You decide.

Cohen is also supposed to be a migraine sufferer, and very shy. Some
people say he is really crazy. I guess time
will tell if he's a genius or just another obsessed dropout.

Famous CH folks?  Who cares?????  This board is here for us to vent when we hurt and help each other with remedies.  Not gossip about wether or not Tom Cruise is slammin his head against the wall as well.  Good grief get a grip and stick to the game plan.

Have to respectfully disagree with you Conrad.

It is inspiring to know that people have suffered from CH syndrome and have made great life accomlishments despite it.

If a cluster headache sufferer can make a film called "It's a Wonderful Life," there is reason for hope for all of us.

If there is ever to be a spotlight on CH and the hopes of increased awareness and getting the research and funding into better and more effective treatments for us, don't you think a prominent face as a spokesperson might just help?  Just a little bit?

I agree Red.

The more awareness, the more chance of someone wanting to find the answer apart from us sufferers.

Also in Australia I heard on the radio last week a radio (ex TV) presenter talk about O2 being helpfull for his CHs. For you guys in OZ it was Steve Leibman (ex channel 9 morning show presenter)

That was the first time I have heard about CH in the general media.

Well, it is here for that, but it is also a community. sometimes chatting about something other than how much you're hurting, or someone else is hurting, or when you might stop hurting or when you're going to start hurting again is a good thing. So, i may not care all that much about whether a celeb has CH, but it might just be a diversion for the community to chat about. what, should we all just sit here and be grumpy and talk about grumpy things?

lighten up.

Conrad, there is more to life  than just our CH problems.  There's life itself (waking up on top of the grass is better than under it) for one thing.  There's love for our families and others, and for ourselves, there's good friends (especially on this board), good food, drink (when it doesn't trigger), and good sex.  Why not talk about the good as well as the bad on this board?

:)

Actually Lee Kudrow did suffer from cluster headaches. He diagnosed mine after many misdiagnosis, and broke the chronic cycle with verapamil and ergotamine as abortive. He wasn't very sympathetic to my suffering on subsequent cycles though. (Verapamil didn't work the next round). I think it had been many years since he'd had cluster attacks. It would likely help to be able to prescribe yourself anything you wanted. He did do much research over the years as he treated many patients for cluster and other headache disorders. I think he wrote a book or two...          8)

Have to agree with Margi re:  Pioneering neurologist.

Dr Kudrow was my Dr.

I have no idea if he suffered from this shit...But the elder Kudrow has my profound respect.
Only charged me 500.00 for a work-up after I  had already diagnosed myself by reading my medical books.
He was the one who prescribed 02 however, and for that I will be forever grateful.    [smiley=bow.gif]

(I think it was his nephew who took over Margi...not sure it matters though )  ;;D
