Title: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by PA_Sandman on May 4th, 2005, 3:47pm Alcohol brings on CH for me...big time. Has anyone drank a beer or wine and then take a 100mg dose of Imitrex?? I have had 1 PF night and I'm going to a party...I'm taking my pill pack with me. As anyone been able to function in this situation??? |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by seasonalboomer on May 4th, 2005, 3:55pm The answer is cold and not the one you want to hear: if you don't want a headache, and alcohol is a trigger, and you're in cycle, then don't drink. If you want to f&*k up your night, for sure, then drink. the choice is clear and clearly yours. |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by PA_Sandman on May 4th, 2005, 4:02pm Pretty much what I thought...thx |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by TxBasslady on May 4th, 2005, 4:08pm The sure triggers for someone with CH and in cycle.....is red wine...and beer. I know several here, when they think their cycle is over, they test that theory by having a beer. Yep...that's a good test. I don't take imitrex.....and I'm not a drinker either...but as Seasonal said.....clear choice....your choice. I can't imagine someone intentionally bringing on a CH. I spose CH does put a damper on things like parties...when you're a drinker. Vibes to ya... Jean |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by seasonalboomer on May 4th, 2005, 4:13pm Lest ye thinks i'm a stick in the mud on the subject. I speak from the experience of bull headedness and really wanting to be able to "participate" in the party. I wished I could say it took only once or twice for me to finally face up to the "clear choice". It doesn't make you much of a candidate for compassion when you're not only hammered, but you're rollling around on the floor with a kip 9 asking "why me". This can also lead to stupid human tricks to try and extract thy beast from thine eye. See "stupid stuff we've all done to knock down the beast" |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by Bob P on May 4th, 2005, 7:02pm Bob, I always get the 100mg trex tabs. They are pretty small triangular tabs. I cut them in half and use them like 50's (that way I get twice the insurance alotment). I prefer uppers with my booze! (but then again, you can't beat a joint and a cool one). |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by BlueMeanie on May 4th, 2005, 7:06pm Alcohol not only triggers an attack for most, it usually jumps the KIP level up a notch. Pills won't do ya much good as there probably won't be time to take effect. Good luck Sandman. Guess people just gotta live and learn. |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by mynm156 on May 4th, 2005, 7:12pm I have found that CLear alcohols such as Vodka dont trigger me. I dont push it though. Bloody Mary some thing like that. The other day I was stupid and had just a DRINK of my wifes Margarita and BAM!!! Game on baby!!! Beer is also out of the question for me. [smiley=bigcry.gif] |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by E-Double on May 4th, 2005, 7:26pm The Blue dude is correct....... Pills would take to long if you are going to take the risk anyway...... Booze of any form no longer triggers a hit for me..... Partied it up hard a few weeks ago @ my Fraternity alumni weekend.....Whiskey galor, Good beer unlike the schwag we had in college and fine young girlies flirting up a storm with us married fellas...... Hot college Chickies aren't a trigger either but I don't take the risk [smiley=laugh.gif]....Love my wife ;) Good luck but know the potential consequences. E 2 |

I gotta tell ya, if I deliberately triggered a headache, I would feel pretty stupid asking "why me". I wouldn't want to be at a party and get hit either. But then, it's your choice... BTW, I think that the documentation that comes with Imitrex, the one your pharmacist probably leaves out, says not to use alcohol when taking trex. Again, your choice. |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by PA_Sandman on May 5th, 2005, 3:25pm Well...the choice is 'CLEAR' no beer for this Sandman. Had to take a 100mg tab last night!!! I need several PF nights before I test the DEMON!!!! :'( Hey...Is cutting the 100mg Trex tabs in half enough to abort the beast?? If they do... I'll start cutting tonight!!! The more TREX I have... the happier I am!! Also...my DOC pulled apart a TREX refill injection kit. Two hits per kit. He put them in two shots. Does anyone know how much liquid TREX is need to abort the beast?? |
||
Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by E-Double on May 5th, 2005, 3:49pm I depends on your beast....... I can abort sometimes with less than a third of an injection but other times nothing will wipe it out.... If the trex is perferated then it is ok to cut (i think)like any perferated med |

On the left side of your screen is an "imitrex tip" button. It will show you how to conserve your trex. Some people use 1/3 of a shot and others use 1/2 and get relief. Double your pleasure, Double your fun. |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by LadyLuv on May 6th, 2005, 6:25pm If I wake up as soon as the Beast attack me or if he does it during the day, a half of a shot will do the trick... But if I don't wake up until it's has me in tears, than I need a complete shot and it still takes a while to calm down. Peace & Blessings Ruthie |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by Bionic_Daddy on May 6th, 2005, 9:35pm Sandman, Be careful! Trex caused me some SERIOUS rebounds. The rebounds are the BEAST & his little brother. |

I've found out over the years (before and after CH - I was a late bloomer in CH - didn't start till I was almost 50) that drinking and having fun at parties don't have to necessarily go together. Just look at it this way -- tomorrow everyone at the party will be nursing sore heads (hangovers) and you'll be pain free and laughing at them. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by ccbiggsoo7 on May 9th, 2005, 12:22am I am like you I can drink bloody mary's and 8 times out of ten not get hit, but one beer! I couldn't drink for 4 years until I started taking the lithium and verap combo.Once on the lith I could go out and drink beer with about a 80% success rate. Always took my trex inj. with me so I wouldn't ruin the party. Got part of my social life back anyway. Good Luck! |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by Sandy_C on May 9th, 2005, 5:31pm Beer is a big trigger for me, sadly, cuz I LOVE beer. During my last cycle, with no beer, I lost 10 lbs! Heck of a way to diet, but I'm down a size - plan to stay that way too. Cycle's over now, and can have beer again, but keeping the quantity to a much lower level. If there is a plus at all (which there really isn't), you sure do cut down on your alcohol consumption during cycle. When at a party, I drank ice water in a cocktail glass with a slice of lime in it. Nobody knew! |

Sandy, I don't get it. Why are you trying to hide the fact that you are NOT drinking alcohol? It's nothing to be ashamed of. Just wondering. |

Title: Re: Alcohol and Imitrex Post by Sandy_C on May 11th, 2005, 8:51am Wasn't trying to hide anything and I'm certainly not ashamed of anything either. It just stopped people from asking me why I wasn't drinking. Didn't feel that I should have to explain why to anyone. Those that knew about my CH knew why. Those that didn't know about it, didn't need to know about it. I didn't want to have to spend what should be a fun evening trying to explain what CH is to those that didn't know and get into the conversation of "Oh, I get headaches too, and here's what I do for them". As you know, those that have learned about CH understand that it's not just a headache. The rest are completely clueless and a party is not the place to give them an education. That's all. No big deal. |
