Title: Sleep and Activity Post by Tony Bussert on Apr 18th, 2005, 11:37am I'm in the middle of fun one. Switched sides which is a first for me. It's now in my right eye, where it's usually in the left. I probably shouldn't have gone out for my friend's 29th bday on Saturday, but I refuse to let this damn thing rule my life. Anyway I only slept for a few hours between Saturday and Sunday morning with the partying and whatnot. Anyway, I was super tired on Sunday and took a nap. Things were fine, but at around 3:00am this morning I woke up and my old "friend" was back to kick me around, only this time he moved to my right eye instead of my left. My question concerns sleep and activity. People say that to try to get active as soon as you feel one coming on, but if I get active it usually escalates the pain. I'd much rather suffer through a 6 KIP than a 9 KIP. Also people say that taking naps brings them on (which I can attest to), but what do others do to stay awake? I mean we all know what it feels like to get hit with a banger and how exhausting it is, plus it's getting you up at weird hours. How do you all cope with the sleep part? I'm dying of exhaustion, afraid to go to sleep, and I want to tear my eye out (I'm in the middle of a 7 KIP, not too bad but bad enough). I'm sitting here at work (oh and get this, I work for an company that deals with optics, they beam laser beam images directly onto your retina, am a little afraid to try it out for fear it will get worse). Any adivce would be much appreciated! |

Title: Re: Sleep and Activity Post by BobG on Apr 18th, 2005, 11:58am Hello Tony, sorry to hear you're hurting. Most of us here have a fear of sleep. It's the REM sleep mode where the devil lives. Have you tried melatonin? Or Benedryl (sp)? It it might help you avoid the REM mode. Quote:
Damn! You're a lot tougher than I am. At a kip 4 I can't even see the monitor. Quote:
Why do they do that? And images of what? Just curious. |

Title: Re: Sleep and Activity Post by Tony Bussert on Apr 18th, 2005, 12:04pm I've been able to tough out up to a seven, after that I just go walk around my rec room and go a little weird (crying, rocking, banging, the usual). As for the laser beam image, the idea is to and think about optics in a different way. The founder of the techsaw that since everyone was looking at making screens either smaller with better rez or bigger with better rez that there had to be a better way to do it. So in thinking outside of the box he had one of those Eureka moments, he thought well the best screen in the world is your own eye, why not put the image directly there? The idea is to get into a sunglass size product so that it would be easily portable. |

Title: Re: Sleep and Activity Post by De_Minimis on Apr 20th, 2005, 11:18pm Watch going out. Had to learn the hard way, the really hard way that alcohol can bring on the grand daddy of CHs. Neuro never mentioned that to me, ever. And I paid her for what exactly? A few weeks back, had two beers and (now that I've finally reviewed the Kip scale) it took me to a 9-10 after the juice got into the system and stayed until it left (approx 1:30-1:45 later). What I wouldn't give for a beer right now, but no freak'n way. Found myself passed out from the pain/exhaustion twice during that fun-filled evening. Neither I, nor my wife, will ever forget that night. |
