Title: Back in cycle after 3 yrs
Post by Lori on Apr 14th, 2005, 1:48pm
Well i see many new names since I was last really active here. So glad to see many others are able to find this site and receive help. I have had a real rough last 1 1/2 yrs and haven't been able to be around. Major teenager problems that demanded my full attention and still does really. But anyway it's been three years since my last cycle and it's started again a week ago. The good news is I've been on lamictal (anti seizure drug) for 7 weeks for something else, so maybe that will help some. I saw my neuro this morning and got my script for verapamil to start and for O2 that is yet to be delivered. I've never used O2 so hope it works. If all that still doesn't dull the pain, we will add topomax as this helped the last cycle. I hate those side effects though! I have a stash of triptans so I think I'm ready. I quit smoking 2 years ago so hopefully that will have some inpact of some sort and I don't drink so that won't be a trigger. It also seems the time between cycles is getting a little longer each time. It use to be every 2 yrs for years, then the last one came in 2 1/2 yrs now this one it's been three years. I'm 38 so aging might be a good thing.  :) I think I'm mentally stronger and ready to fight although I become a big baby during a hit. :(

Well, I will be reading alot of new stuff I see that I have missed since being gone for a while. Blessings and wishing you all a pain free day!

Sorry you're having a hard time right now, Lori.  :(  As vig mentioned...do read the kudzu threads. Many have found significant relief with it. Read it all though and look for possible drug interactions. Pain free wishes, nani

I have read on the kudzu and today ordered two bottles to try. I will wait a week after starting to see if it helps before starting the verapamil. I may go longer if the O2 works to kill the HA's I may get. So glad to see an alternative that seems promising! :)

Sorry that you are back in cycle after a 3 year break.  I'm a chronic since 1996.  I was placed on Lamictal in October of 2000 and six months later went into a remission that lasted a year.  I faithfully took the lamictal during my remission and both my neurologist and myself thought that the Lamictal was the reason for the remission but, alas, 3 years ago this month the pain returned and has been with me ever since.  I remained on the Lamictal for six months after my pain returned, but it did nothing so finally I stopped.  One of the characteristics of chronic CH is that it can suddenly go into remission for reasons unknown to science.  The remissions can be for weeks, months, years or forever (for the lucky few).  I hope that your current cycle remits shortly and for a long time; stay with the Lamictal-who knows, it may work for you.  Good luck! - PC

I am so sorry that your cycle returned, Lori... :(
I am glad, though, that the beast gave you PF years! :)

PF wishes,
Sandie

Hi Lori:
Nice to meet another three-year cycle person.  We're just  weird, plain and simple (and really lucky).  No explaining it.  Weather is about the same.  Diet is a little better.  Basically same job.  Makes no sense.

Hi Lori - Nice to meet you!  As Eric said, glad to see you are prepared to do the battle with the beast !!! I'm a 2 1/2 year cycle person (or was?) who knows when it will come calling again ... oh well can't worry about that.

Sorry you are in pain and hope the beast passes from you soon !!  Many PFDANs !!

Tony

Hey, cool. My last attack was three years ago, too. It's so easy to forget about the beast when he's gone...until he comes back...(sigh)

Yes, it is easy to forget but I always wondered "when?"
I must say that this cycle is different. It hasn't progressed like it normally does. It's been three weeks now and I haven't had a bad HA for a week..just shadows. Some very brief and hardly noticable others a bit more than that. I have no idea what this means and wonder will I be spared this time or not. And if so..why?? Certain things are different in my life this time then past cycles so maybe that is why.  I can only pray!

Anyway..PF days to you!

I felt that way when I had my first Zomig.

the dark stormy pressure lifted,
I felt the sun shine brighter,
and I was listening to birds singing
(like i was Cinderella or something)

That whole week I waited,
kept thinking the red-hot poker would return....
When?  When?

My husband thought, "at last, the freak is cured!"
(I said he thought it, he never said it...lol)

and it did stay away a few months....
