Title: Is this a cluster headache? Post by YellowSalamander on Mar 28th, 2005, 4:17pm Hi everyone-I am trying to figure out whether my headaches are cluster headaches. I am a 31 year-old female who has suffered from bad headaches from about the age 18. I had thought for the last 10 years+ that these were sinus headaches because they came on during low pressure systems often, my eyes would feel like rocks, I would have congestion esp on one side or the other & my sinus areas would become extremely tender. In addition, I would tightness on one or both sides of my head. More recently, these headaches have become nearly impossible to withstand because they start in the middle of the name with an absolutely insance dizzy feeling around the eyes which is accompanied by a black & white prickly sensation esp if my eyes are closed. Sometimes when I stand up, I almost fall over from dizziness. Nothing helps really although massage of the head & feet seem to make it a little better. I have been getting 3 or 4 days of these per week for the last few weeks. The last one I had before that was in Thanksgiving & I had a few then. At that time, my dr thought I had a classic migraine & gave me imitrex which helped the first time but not since. Lastly, the headache & degree of dizziness seems to come & go throughout the day, and on an intuitive basis, it feels connected to my shoulders and feet, as in massage in those areas should help although it really does not do much. Any thoughts? Thank you very much in advance for any help. |

Title: Re: Is this a cluster headache? Post by Sean_C on Mar 28th, 2005, 5:54pm I'm not a doc either yellow, but something is definately wrong. I would search out a neurologist near you that specializes in headache and go from there. Let us know if you get any definative answers, and just because one doc says something doesn't neccissarily mean there was a correct diagnosis, look further if you feel need be. Title: Re: Is this a cluster headache? Post by eyes_afire on Mar 28th, 2005, 11:04pm I think it's very important that you see a neurologist and get a proper diagnosis... before using the imitrex. Without a proper diagnosis, the use of imitrex could be dangerous. It may be worth checking out these websites to see if your symptoms are similar: http://www.headaches.org/consumer/topicsheets/basilarmigrane.html http://groups.msn.com/BasilarArteryMigraineBAM/warningabouttripans.msnw http://groups.msn.com/BasilarArteryMigraineBAM/yourwebpage.msnw http://headaches.allinfoabout.com/articles/btm.htm I'm no doc, but the whole dizziness thing would worry me. Best wishes --- Steve |
