Have any of you gone from one altitude into a nother for an extended period of time and found that you were being hit more often while in cycle or hit while you were supposed to be out of cycle. When I say diffrent altitude I mean like from 100 feet above sea level to 20 or 30,000 feet above. The bottom of a mountain to the top or the other way around. Did you live at a low level the go to the top and stay for a few days or weeks.

If so what were the conditions, did you have a diffrent type of climate, what were the temp diffrences, was it more or less humid? Was it good weather at the start point then snowing where you ended up? Was the air dry or humid at the start and then just the opisite or the same at the point that you noticed something was wrong.

Please if you can list what you can remember. I am courious about other experiances.

Well Dave Hun, as you know, Nashville was very warm and humid for convention last year and that was a big trigger for me. Otherwise I haven't really been anywhere to make a distiction.

i get 2 cycles a year, one lasts feb-march, I moved to Susanvile Ca. in Jan 2003 from Kansas. I got my first hit the first night and a month early. That was my first 4 month cycle. I also had a 4 month cycle that fall. I moved back to kansas in feb 03 while in cycle already. It ended in march as normal. Susanville is in the high sierras and is about 5k ft higher than I am here in kansas. So yes i do believe there is a connection.

My own experience with this was last summer, when I had an
unusual episode on the heels of a 10 day stay at 11,000 feet. I don't think it was a coincidence, since my episodes have been exclusive to spring and fall. Check out the link.

OK, reading over the threads I've noticed one thing. Those that said that they hiked up or down had little to no reaction. Also those that flew mostly did not have any reaction as well.

I can only guess it is because when you hike your making a slower change in your body with relationship to altitude and pressue so you are able to adjust to it allot easier. Where as when you drive up a mountain your not makeing a slow transition and forcing yourself to adjust more rapidly. On a plane however they do what they can to keep the pressure equal and some adjust to it while others do not.

Does that make any sence? I know I'm not a doc or any body real smart but I'm just trying to make sence out of what happened to me while I was away. I'm also hoping that it may help someone else with allot more brains then me figure something more out about what triggers the beast.

Hi Dave. When I fly and get to my destination I usually have to fight off a bad hit before I can even start having fun. Makes me a bummer to the rest of the family for a while. Since I live near sea level (NE of Seattle) and fly at altitudes @ 36,000ft, I would say that it is a possible trigger for me, but we are all different ;). Joe

some of my worst ones come when I drop the ~6,000 feet out of the mountains...

Any air travel above 28K will trigger a CH for me upon approach to the next airport.

I don't hike, so I can't tell ya about that. But flights never did anything to my head. I've had CH on the same day, but never during a flight.

A couple times a year I have to go through the mountains to take my step daughters to see thier father and I always get hit. I also nothice that when I go visit family in the mountains that I get hit.
