Title: Can't lay down.
Post by jokrs2 on Mar 14th, 2005, 1:39am
I made it through morphine withdrawal (6 days now)and have had a couple of slight shadow days out of the last 5 while taking Kudzu. I think the Kudzu also minimized the withdrawal from the morphine which I took daily for the last 14 years. But I layed down to sleep last night and got NAILED with a full blown CH today. I couldn't even stay for my oldest boys birthday lunch. After I got home at 5:30 I took a Kudzu (750mg Planetary Formula) and then an hour later I took 2 more. It is now 10:30 and I am about a k5 and dropping slowly. I just don't think I can sleep lying down anymore, as the result is just not worth it. I have managed to fall asleep sitting up a couple of times and did not wake up in a major battle with the demon. Has anybody else had a similar experience?

Yes, several people have reported that.  It could be apnea.

I can't recall this topic receiving serious, long attention here. But yes, for many years I could not sleep on my back because pressure just above the kidneys would trigger an attack.

Also had the same experience sitting in a chair which put pressure on this area. It was such a regular experience that I could abort the development of a full-blown attack by moving quickly to relief the pressure point.

Have never seen pressure points as triggers in the literature. Interesting, but a prolonged experience for me which said that something was going on--not just "in my head."

Yes! Managed to fall asleep in the recliner last night and woke up with just a slight shadow after being k10 yesterday. Increasing my dosage of Kudzu to the recommended 2 pills 3x a day as it appeared to help last night. Also took 6mg of melatonin. I always start as low as possible when trying something new, but the increase in dosage is helping.
My massage therapist saw me while I was k10, (still don't know how I drove there), and said that all the muscles in and around my head & neck were completely spasmed and after 1 hour of work only one side of my head responded, but at least I was able to open my eye for a couple of hours. If I fall asleep flat I always get hit. I always sleep proped up high or sitting up. It saves me a lot of pain.

Yup.  I either sleep propped sitting up in bed or in my recliner.

When I get woken up by this, I KNOW the first thing I have to do is sit up... IMMEDIATELY, or it'll be worse.

Ditto,

A recliner is a required piece of furniture for any clusterhead.  Lying flat is the worse thing for many of us.

Hang in there, Jokrs - so proud of you for the withdraw.  I know what hell this must be for you.

Many hugs and good Kudzu wishes,

Kris

Yep, If I'm sleeping while in cycle... it is sitting in the recliner !!  The worst thing I can do is lie flat ... seems to make the kip much higher than it otherwise would be ...

If I'm awakened by the demon (and I ALWAYS am) -- never get daytime attacks -- the first thing I MUST do is get up and move, a little trex, a little soda, and I wait ...  ::)

Kudos to you on the withdrawal !!  Keep up the good work!  Wishing you PFDANs!!

Thank you everyone! My wife went out and bought 4 recliners, 2 with massage & heat, what a gal!!  I havn't been able to sleep in the same bed with her for a long time as I also have restless leg syndrome. The twitching and jerking keeps her awake and I end up getting up. I will just have to get used to this and develop the habit of sleeping sitting up on my back. Starting my 8th day without morph so I'm completely off it now and it's out of my system, and I am getting alot of endorphine production from the Kudzu. 2 days in a row with only a slight shadow with a high of only kip 3 on one of the mornings, so it is helping me considerably. YEAH! ;;D. I pray that these results continue and pray for all of your success in taming the beast as much as possible.
God bless, Joe

trying to lay down is the worst thing you can do! not only does it intensify the pain, but will also prolong the attack! try sitting up with a soft ice cold rag while over an AC vent.
