I posted once last year about my 25 year battle with CH's, from the age of 13 until I was 38. I too had tried to find anything that would work, even trying a ENT's suggestion to allow him to inject pure grain alcohol between the sinus bones above my left eye. That's the only time I have ever heard an injection, and the effect was to bring on one of the most severe CH's I'd ever had. My face swelled up like I had been hit with a baseball bat.

Other prescriptions of caffergot (sp?) and various other drugs did nothing to alleviate the length or severity of the cycles, which for me occurred two to three times a year for about 12 weeks each cycle.

I fortunately came upon a doc who prescribed 10 or 20 mg of inderal, and for the first time they allowed me to live with the pain of the clusters without wanting to commit suicide. My next and last cycle appeared two years later, and with one prescription of the inderal, the cycle disappeared and I have been free of CH's for 20 years now.

I was fearful that smoking or alcohol was the culprit behind the headaches. But learned they were not. I now enjoy cigars on the weekend (not inhaling though) and an occasional glass of wine, and with no ill effect.

While I regularly read your posts, my heart goes out to each of you for what has to be one of the most, if not the most excruciating pain known to humankind.

Glad to hear it worked for you ... it doesn't for most of the rest of us. Were you actually diagnosed with Cluster Headaches?

You should really inform us of who this ENT is and where he is located. Wouldn't want to run in to him!

I'm also glad that it worked for you.My doctor had me taking Inderal LA for about a year.It made me so tired that I could hardly work.But every time I would try to withdraw from it (taper down)I would go into a cycle of CH that would kick my butt untill I got the Inderal back into my system.I have since switched to Nadolol and deceded the Inderal.It does seem to help from the really killer deamons,but never ends the lurking shadows that always remain.And I still will have a visit two or thre times a week at a kip level of 7 or more.Good luck with the Inderal I'm glad it works for you.The friggin' thing about CH is that what works for one,doesn't work for everybody. :PDavid
