Title: Tender, "burnt feeling" skin?
Post by Scossie on Feb 10th, 2005, 4:37am
Hi all.....

Sorry if this has been discussed before.
I'm new to this site.

Was just wondering about something.
When I'm at the height of a CH cycle, even when I'm not in any pain, the skin on my right temple feels very tender to touch.
(My CH's are always on the right hand side).
The best way to describe it is that it feels as if it's been burnt.

I always get this, & when it starts to go away I always feel relieved cos I know that the cycle is tapering off.

Anyone else experienced this?

Yes! After an attack it was slightly painful to touch the hair on my temple.

Ditto here. Almost like an electric current on the affected side, sensative to the touch. Bruised comes to mind. Adding a bag of ice is a real treat. It's one of the reasons I never tried the hot water/shower approach.

Yes, for me it's the neck and around the eye socket...

The top of my head feels like it has a really bad sunburn.

When I'm in cycle, even when I'm not in an actual attack, my skin on the cluster side of my face is sensitive to the sun.  Feels like having a sunburn and going back into the sun.

Oh yes! That's true with my head as well after attack. I know that part of it is due to the fact that I like to pull my hair near the place the pain is... ::) I like to pretend that what I'm doing actually helps... ;;D It makes me feel better.

Yes!! Bruised and electricity over the same side of the headache. Nice to hear I'm not the only one.

Anyway, I thought the bruised thing was the obvious effect of pulling my hair and scratching my skin during the attacks. I think it's actually a miracle that I still have some...

Yep ... and it lasts until my cycle is well over.  In fact, even when not in cycle, I'm careful around that eye and temple (the left for me).  I'm always afraid I'll trigger something.  That's probably why I have a few more wrinkles on the left - afraid of rubbing in my many layers of anti-wrinkle cream!

Yes. I posted about this a while back. I went to a doc to be tested for any signs of temporal arteritis. Came up with nothing.

I am well between cycles, but periodically my arteries get so tender on various places on top my head that it feels like I have a bad bruise - just barely touching my hair "hurts". My arteries over the temple also get tender and puffy.
