Title: Do your headaches vanish or taper?
Post by Lucia on Feb 8th, 2005, 6:34am
This must be the season for vacations because I, too, am planning on a trip in 10 days and am in my 3rd week of clusters after being free for 3 years or so.  And last time I discovered the Imitrex trick and the HAs were aborted fast and actually were fewer than ever.  However, this time around they have been 3-4 a night and  I had to go back to oxygen.

My question:  the last two nights I have only had two HAs which were not even centered in the usual place and for which I did not even get out of bed (which has never happened).  Has anyone else ever had their's sort of taper off like this or is this just a honeymoon period where they will come back?  Usually mine just stop as fast as they come on.

Usually mine taper off fairly quickly.  Sometimes drops to shadow status and hangs on for a while.

Editted to add:  Oh, you meant cycles, not attacks.  Excuse me, I'm tired.  I'm primary chronic.  Still in my first "cycle" and showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. :-/

Mine are rapid and sudden onset. One day, I am pain-free, the next, BOOM: I'm in cycle. Towards the end, the cycle ramps up, and the hits are more frequent and more intense, and then one night, I sleep all the way through and the next day, I wait to get hit, but nothing comes... From this, I can say that I am either in cycle or I am not in cycle. Sudden onset, sudden end.

Taper, but if stopped soon enough trex shots can wipe them out.  But thats only sometimes

The individual headaches ramp up, and then begin to taper down just a little, and then are suddenly gone.

Taper.

Taper off in both intensity and frequency, with lingering shadows for a couple weeks more.

Ditto on what Kris said ... usually build in intensity during the 1st part of a cycle, reach a peak, then slowly start receding in intensity.  My Verapamil has made this cycle much more tolerable in terms of intensity and length of individual attacks.

May you have many PFDANs!

That's a good question.I'm just starting to crank up a good old CH as I answer your question. As soon as I'm done I will hit the 02.Most of the time it will abort the CH to a shadow within 15 min.It really depends on where I'm at on the kip scale.Without the 02 I'm not so lucky, they usually taper after a couple of hours.David

Mine end abruptly.  They kind of start out like a bell curve in each cycle (not so fierce at the beginning), and after a few really nasty headaches, they're suddenly gone until the next episode.

I describe it as a "draining." It seems to just give up and taper off within 15 seconds. It's like a repreive.

my headaches may come at nite for weeks then evolve into a another series that occurrs during the day they seem to change without notice last for a week or two then change again.

When I was episodic mine would ramp up over a month or so -- then would get to the point I'd go on DHE injections to break the cycle (it never worked on the front). Then poof they were gone till the next time.

Now that I've been chronic for years -- I'd take taper or abrupt -- ANYTHING!
