Title: Med Question
Post by BstnEagles on Feb 2nd, 2005, 3:16am
Hey all,

Sorry have not posted in awhile.  It has been a busy couple of months!  Hope everyone is well.  I have a question.  On Saturday I had my CH doctor appointment.  We incread vmil(240 SR and 180 straight) and ADDED Topamax.  Does anyone know anything about topamax.  Does it work?  Side effects.  The doctor originally mentioned Lithium buts its not an opyion for me right now because of the other meds I take.

Thanks

Ed

Hi Ed...

welcome back.
Many of us have tried Topamax. It gave me 24/7 regular HA in the same place CH usually is for 5 days. I became a zombie. It did nothing for my CH.
Check out more info and stories about it from Medications, treatments & therapies - board and archives.  :)

Best wishes,
Sandie

It put me in remission for a long time, but quit working after a few years. I took it at night and didn't have the side effects that others have had. Short term memory loss was the biggest drawback, but I learned to write notes and besides I'm OLD!

My normal dose was 100mg, but have been up to 400 when HAs started hitting --

It gave me back my life, so I sing its praises even tho it doesn't work for me now. But give it a few weeks and get your dosage regulated to what's right for you. It's better than lithium I think.

Hi Ed,
We are all different and respond differently to meds.....
Some take it and have minimal side-effects and find relief & others take it, continue to have atacks and find themselves scared because they are just plain blank!

That's what happened to me......Couldn't teach on the stuff, HOWEVER, That does not mean that I regret trying. I had to because despite the "surveys" I may have been that person which it is effective.

Hope it helps but do remember that if on it and not happy....coming off of it has to be done slowly!!!

Best,

Eric
