Title: let the games begin
Post by bigred on Jan 29th, 2005, 10:38am
I finally saw a certified neuroligist for my CH on 1-28.
They first did a EEG. Then he gave me a regimant of pills to reverse my longstanding selfmedication of over the counter drugs.
   1- prednisone [ 2 week run]
2-zantac to take with the prednisone
3-ativan   to help me sleep when on the prednisone
4-verapamil [looks like this is daily for a long time]
As far as aborting my nightly screemers he gave me a boxload of
Imitrex injecters and Imitrex inhailers. How effective is the inhaler?
I have not tryed the injecter yet, Do you hit your leg or arm. Which hurts worse, And what is the feeling?
Does it go straight to work on the beast?
Anyway I must thank you all for being on this sight.
Until I found it, I was wondering aimlessly thru my pain and selfpitty.  You all gave me the direction and new knowlage I needed to come back from the dark cave we can find ourselves in. ITS TIME TO LIVE AGAIN WITH MY NEW HOPE :)
wishing ya all a PF weekend

I would like to know also, how effective is the Imitrex inhaler.  I HATE needles.
Also, my doc babbled something about changing my Verapimil to a "faster acting verapimil".  What is that?  Might he just be talking about SR vs ER?  Does anyone know of yet another variety of verapimil besides those 2?
And btw, what the hell is the advantage of a "slower" acting verapimil?
Thanks and PF wishes
BMonee

Sounds like a good doc--that's nice!

Imitrex injection is the fastest acting. Injecting in you thigh is the easiest--just follow the packages directions carefully. There may be a little local burning sensation but don't sit around looking for stuff to happen or you'll find it.

Re. spray. Lean slightly forward when you spray and do not inhale too hard--just a moderate inhale--or else you will pull the med into your throat where it tastes bad and won't help.

If you don't get results from the Pred in a couple of days, call the doc. He may have to increase the starting dose which ranges from 10mg to 100mg a day--and only experience reveals what works for you.

BMonee:

See, under "medications, treatment" section, the message, "Verap ER vs SR"--answer there.
