Title: Re: POLL : IF you had Choice of doc???.... Post by Bob P on Jan 20th, 2005, 12:48pm I'll stick with my doc. He doesn't know squat about clusters so I treat myself. I tell him what I want and he writes the scripts. I even tell him what dose I want. If you can't cure their ignorance, use it to your advantage! |

Title: Re: POLL : IF you had Choice of doc???.... Post by Lizzie2 on Jan 20th, 2005, 5:31pm Well my family doc said no to the idea of me telling him what scripts to write based on the research. I dunno what they're scared of...look what happened to me when going to a real-live headache specialist!!! My choice would be my former neuro, Dr. Charles Siow...who currently lives in Singapore. After him, I'd choose Dr. Noah Rosen at Jefferson. He's amazing!! Even if he is still young...he is so *interested* in what he can learn from patients. I love that. :) Dr. Young and I have our moments of getting along or not... I'm considering a second opinion up at NECH just to see what they have to say about a few things. I know they don't have an inpatient facility anymore, and I have a habit of needing to wind up in the hospital a lot...but maybe they don't have one because they've developed treatment strategies that WORK. That would be wonderful. :) So....sticking with Dr. Young at Jefferson for now. I think I would have gotten along with him a lot better if I hadn't started off with Dr. Siow! Dr. Siow was like a 2nd father to me...and that spoiled the rest of my doctor-patient relationships because now if someone isn't as nice or wanting you to be as much of a treatment partner, then I get mad! Best of luck whatever you do!!!! ;;D L-double :) |

I go to NECH, and you're right, they don't have an inpatient place anymore. They used to at Greenwich Hosp. They are considering sending me for inpatient in Michigan at MHNI(and NECH would do the follow-up) if my treatment plan doesn't pan out. Oh, I see Dr. Sheftell there and have other various consultants, some docs, some not;), that I work with |

Title: Re: POLL : IF you had Choice of doc???.... Post by E-Double on Jan 20th, 2005, 9:52pm Thanks everyone!! I guess for me it's not really enough to read on a list rather than to "hear" from "failiar" people who they deal with and they are comfortable with. Willing to travel...... Will send my Resume if needed ;) |

Title: Re: POLL : IF you had Choice of doc???.... Post by kissmyglass on Jan 21st, 2005, 4:44pm Dr. James Butler. No question. he is very knowledgeable about Clusters and gives me whatever scripts I want, refillable for a year. i could get 30 statdoses a week if i could afford them... i couldn't ask for a better doc & he is 30 minutes from the NECH, in Connecticut. Title: Re: POLL : IF you had Choice of doc???.... Post by Renee on Jan 21st, 2005, 5:57pm Dr. Sheftell at NECH! He's my neuro and I live in Texas. It is worth the trip for me as no one around here could treat my ch properly. And, MHNI is often a referral Dr. Sheftell will use for inpatient. He recommended MHNI to me but his treatment plan kept me out of MHNI. I have a local neuro for rescue relief. |

Title: Re: POLL : IF you had Choice of doc???.... Post by Biker on Jan 21st, 2005, 7:30pm Whatcha mean Doc? For general doc, I prefer a young lady. Their fingers are small and that helps when they do the protocology feel. For headache??? Well my first Neruo hit the nail on the head. Dr. Ramadan at the Cincinnati headache center. He is hard to get an appointment with, and right expensive. He does neruo-sugery, and travells world wide treating people with enough bucks to hire him. He also suffers from Clusters and other types of head hurts. I feel extremely lucky to have had my first appointments with him. Would never have happened if not for a special nurse friend. |

Title: Re: POLL : IF you had Choice of doc???.... Post by toolong on Jan 21st, 2005, 7:44pm Live in a semi-large city (Indianapolis)and have yet after 20 years found a doctor that can come up with a plan to cure my CH.Seen quite a few over the years and taken every drug you can imagine.Still chronic after all those years.Pray for a magic pill that will make them disappear. But then who will pay the doctors bills if they find a cure? Hell no BMW's or fancy homes.Anyway working on a kip4 right now getting ready to hit the 02.If anybody knows of a real CH doctor in the Indianapolis area please let me know. Title: Re: POLL : IF you had Choice of doc???.... Post by Kris_in_SJ on Jan 21st, 2005, 7:59pm I'm with BobP and Guesst. I have the best GP in the world. I've been the neuro route several times. Small community, what can I say? I do the research ... my doc writes the scripts. Basically, I'm teaching him. However, at my last appointment he mentioned he has two new patients with diagnosed clusters that he is treating (successfully) with the things I've learned here. He also mentioned he's a sometimes "lurker." If I lived in a big city with access to the best and most knowledgeable cluster docs, things would probably be different. For now, I'm my own advocate and am grateful for every link and tidbit of knowledge I gain. Do whatever you need to do, Eric! Big hugs, Kris |
