Title: Re: A day early...... Happy Chanukah Post by burnt-toast on Dec 25th, 2005, 10:15am Chanukah celebrates victory over the Syrians and the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple. Chanukah, commemorates the "miracle of the oil" through eight days of celebration. The Syrians were driven out of Israel and the Temple in Jerusalem was reclaimed following three years of fighting. On the 25th day of the month of Kislev, Greek symbols and statues were removed from the temple and it was rededicated. Also called "The Festival of the Lights", Chanukah means "rededication" After cleaning the temple Judah and his followers lit the N'er Tamid or the eternal light, present in all Jewish houses of worship. Once lit, this oil lamp must never be extinguished. A tiny jug of oil with enough for a single day was found. The miracle occurred as the tiny amount of oil remained lit for eight days. Happy Chanukah Tom |

Title: Re: A day early...... Happy Chanukah Post by rickyshot on Dec 27th, 2005, 8:38pm A Jewish believer in Jesus is simply a Hebrew Christian. The first Christians were Jews and Peter and Paul carried the faith to the Gentiles as prophesied many times in the Old testament. Jews for Jesus is one branch of Jewish believers. Some call it Messaniac Judaism. I look as Christianity as the completion of Judaism and Jesus as the Messiah fortetold by the scriptures. Incidentally the book of Hebrews in the New Testament was written to the Hebrew Church and stresses the New Covenant and the greatest chapter on faith. You can google Messianic Judaism to get hundreds of sites of why many Jews have accepted Jesus of the Bible as the Messiah or Yeshua (his name called when he walked the Earth) which means He who saves. |
