Title: I dont care!!
Post by Jonny on Dec 14th, 2005, 5:57pm
"Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or
was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on
September 11, 2001? Were people from all over the world, mostly
Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan,
across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in
Pennsylvania?
Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible,
burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was
"desecrated" when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it
wet? Well, I don't.
I don't care at all.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in
and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle
East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession
of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia.

I'll care when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi tells the world he is
sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed
through his gurgling! , slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called "insurgents" in Iraq
come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion
by hiding in mosques.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up
in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of
their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the American media stops pretending that
their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international
law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine
roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this:
I don't care.

When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi
prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college hazing
incident, rest assured that I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when
he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take
it to the bank that I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a
prayer mat, and fed "special" food that is paid for by my tax dollars,
is complaining that his holy book is being "mishandled," you
can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts that
I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's
spelled "Koran" and other times "Quran." Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and ----
you guessed it, I could not have said this any better myself!

Do I care about a war half a world away. No! I don't care!
Do I care about OUR troops who are fighting there? Yes I care and want them home.

Do I care about the money we're throwing down the drain on that war? YES I care!
That money should be spent here in America - it's OUR tax money and we have people HERE who need it - I don't care about the Iraquains and their independence - let them fight for it - they've had thousands of years practice.... I don't care if they get it or not!

Do I care that the International Media blows things out of context - Not by the hair of your chinny chin chin.... I've got a remote control that switches to the Disney Channel where I can watch reruns of the Mickey Mouse Club.

Do I care about bending over backwards for these jerks who are trying to kill as many Americans as they can? NO I DON'T CARE!!!

As Harry Truman said  (or someone said to him - I forget -I'm OLD) "Give 'em Hell!"

Hugs BD

Maybe the best thing we can do is flush the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Quote:
In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.

§ 893. Art. 93. Cruelty and maltreatment

Quote:

prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college hazing incident, rest assured that I don't care.

§ 920. Art. 120. Rape and carnal knowledge
§ 925. Art. 125. Sodomy
(The fact that frat boys do it to each other doesn't make it ok.)

BTW, The Geneva Convention was signed and ratified as a treaty by the US, and according to the US Constitution, that makes it a supreme law of the land, second only to the US Constitution.  It wasn't something forced on us by the blue-helicopter folks at the UN.

and of course all americans captured by these terrorist are treated per this too! oh wait The Geneva Convention is for war prisioners, not terrorist, or as everyone like to call them insurgents. The fact we are applying those rules to them is a great deed indeed, and The Geneva Convention does provide for interigation tequniques during times of war that is way worse than these terrorists have endured, including sleep deprivation, humiliation, phisical discomfort, and other non lethal and non disfiguring methods of interigation.
But I dont care if it stops future attacks here and everywhere else!

The US Navy today announced that it has released a senior Al Qaeda terrorist after questioning him extensively for 27 days while being held prisoner aboard a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea.

In a humanitarian gesture, the terrorist was given $50 US and a white 1962 Ford Fairlane automobile upon being released from custody.

The attached photo shows the terrorist on his way home just after being released by the Navy.

Well, there is no real evidence that torture works, and lots of people with experience that say that torture is innefective and unecessary.  But it is fun!

Quote:
By contrast, it is easy to find experienced U.S. officers who argue precisely the opposite. Meet, for example, retired Air Force Col. John Rothrock, who, as a young captain, headed a combat interrogation team in Vietnam. More than once he was faced with a ticking time-bomb scenario: a captured Vietcong guerrilla who knew of plans to kill Americans. What was done in such cases was "not nice," he says. "But we did not physically abuse them." Rothrock used psychology, the shock of capture and of the unexpected. Once, he let a prisoner see a wounded comrade die. Yet -- as he remembers saying to the "desperate and honorable officers" who wanted him to move faster -- "if I take a Bunsen burner to the guy's genitals, he's going to tell you just about anything," which would be pointless. Rothrock, who is no squishy liberal, says that he doesn't know "any professional intelligence officers of my generation who would think this is a good idea."

Or listen to Army Col. Stuart Herrington, a military intelligence specialist who conducted interrogations in Vietnam, Panama and Iraq during Desert Storm, and who was sent by the Pentagon in 2003 -- long before Abu Ghraib -- to assess interrogations in Iraq. Aside from its immorality and its illegality, says Herrington, torture is simply "not a good way to get information." In his experience, nine out of 10 people can be persuaded to talk with no "stress methods" at all, let alone cruel and unusual ones. Asked whether that would be true of religiously motivated fanatics, he says that the "batting average" might be lower: "perhaps six out of ten." And if you beat up the remaining four? "They'll just tell you anything to get you to stop."

Guantanamo tip tied to arrests of 22 in Germany

By Charlie Savage, Globe Staff  |  January 24, 2005

WASHINGTON -- Information obtained through the interrogation of a Guantanamo Bay detainee led to a spectacular series of counterterrorism raids in Germany this month, in which more than 700 police swept through mosques, homes, and businesses in six cities and arrested 22 suspected militant extremists, according to a senior Defense Department official.

The role of the Guantanamo interrogations in triggering the raids had not been previously reported. In Europe, the interrogations have been widely denounced as flagrant violations of international law, and many leaders have expressed concern over alleged abuses.

The United States is holding 558 detainees at Guantanamo, and some have been imprisoned for as long as three years. Officials say that only a quarter of the detainees still regularly meet with interrogators, but they maintain that that core group still provides valuable intelligence.

The German raids of Jan. 12 are the most extensive intelligence coup attributed to the operation. The sweep was the largest counterterrorism operation in recent months in Europe.

In the series of raids, German police seized computers, cellphones, large sums of money, counterfeit identity documents, and literature espousing jihad, or holy war.

German police and prosecutors also told reporters that portions of the suspected Al Qaeda-related network had been under surveillance by Bavarian authorities. They did not say how the alleged cell first came to their attention.

Army Brigadier General Jay Hood, who has commanded the Guantanamo operation for 10 months, confirmed last week there had been a previously unknown terrorist cell in another country recently uncovered by information obtained at the base. He provided no further details.

"We have [obtained information] in the last 90 days which has been of significant value to us and has been relayed as appropriate to allies who might also have an interest, and I'll leave it at that," Hood said.

A senior Defense Department official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the intelligence breakthrough led to the arrests in Germany. The raids have been considered particularly significant because the terrorists involved in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States had roots in Al Qaeda cells in Germany.

Hood said the US military has been interested in demonstrating the value of the interrogations at Guantanamo -- interrogations that he said have been undermined by adverse court rulings and the release of memos by FBI agents describing alleged abuses.

"I have provided through the chain of command specific examples where information gathered here has been of value to us and our allies in the global war on terror," Hood said.

He also said the operation has had many intelligence successes, including intelligence provided to US military forces operating in parts of Afghanistan, as well as information that contributed to a broader understanding of how Al Qaeda interacts with other terrorist networks around the world.

Even comtemplating condoning any kind of torture by us is something I thought I'd never see. To be sure, stuff like it has and will always exist BUT celebrating it, telling us how handy it is or that it can be used in certain circumstances, looks and is bad. Very bad. I can't imagine anyone, anywhere who was raised here even considering it.

You cannot qualify torture. Western countries are supposed at least pretend we are better than this.

You know, acting like Beavis and Butthead isn't hard. It is stupid. The founders are turning over in their graves.  My horror at this is the best way I know to show my love for this country.

I can't believe we have to write a law to insure we practice what we have always preached.

That's it. No more on this from me.

Charlie
