Title: Hey Techies Help Please
Post by Jasmyn on Dec 12th, 2005, 9:41am
Hi, got new pc and LG 17" flat screen monitor but now the problem is, I've tried everything, from setting the colour of the monitor to the settings on the pc but my colour stays out of whack.

It is over red, overly bright, like neon... even the blue, my background is pinkish, my eyes hurt.

Please if you have advise, help!

Simple solution is to check and make sure that the cable is plugged in securely.

If it isn't all the way in, you will get funky colors like that. If it is all the way in and you are still having problems, make sure that there isn't a bent pin on one ond of the cable.

Agreed with EEB.  It should be great out of the box.

What kinda connector are you using?  The normal VGA connector, or the DVI connector?

On the monitor itself, through the configuration menu, you can tweak color temp and brightness and such.

Checked the cable, everything ok, got a VGA connector, I think but still the colour is bad.  I also tried setting it on the monitor itself. [smiley=huh.gif]

Try it on a diffrent computer, if it is the same then it is probably a bad monitor, if it is better then it could be a bad video card on the computer, or maybe ( but I doubt it ) bad drivers. You can always try another operating system like Knoppix, if it looks good (http://knoppix.org/) then you are sure it is a software problem.

Non-techie here

I had to download new drivers and change the screen resolution with an HP system and ViewSonic brand flat monitor at home. Windows stiil says theres a problem but it works. The monitor does not have microsoft recognition. Whatever thats worth.

Paul I checked it works on a smaller old monitor, now I just wonder, like MJ said mustn't I install a new driver and get a new graphics card?

The computer is a HP but the monitor is a LG Flatron L1730S with a Intel(R) 82865G graphics controller.

Maybe the internal graphics card is not compatible with the monitor as they were purchased separate?

The compter runs with windows Xp.

You still need to try the monitor on a different computer, or laptop, most laptops have a video out port. If you cannot do that then take it back to the store ( if you bought it at one) and see if it works for them, it still could be bad. If the monitor is good, then it probably is a driver problem. If you have dial up, look for a local LUG ( Linux users group), someone should be able to get you Knoppix to know for sure if it is a windows xp driver problem. Also look for updated drivers and maybe firm ware updates at the manufacturers site. Google the monitors model to see if there are known problems. I hope this helps.

After trying that monitor on another computer. My first suspicion would fall on that Intel Vidieo card. Intel cards tend to be flaky.
I'd get an NVidia card anyway just to make sure.

Have you installed the drivers for the monitor?  Many times when ppl install a new monitor, they don't think about installing the driver, because Windoze will normally choose the closest match in it's driver library.  Unfortunately, the driver Winblows picks is not always a proper driver.

I'd recomend installing the monitor's drivers, upgrading the graphic card's drivers, reset to factory default on the monitor's menu, then press the Set/Auto button to try to have the monitor try to find the right settings... You don't have to do all four things, just go until the problem is fixed.  If there's still a problem, and you're sure the cable isn't damaged, the 'puter isn't the problem, all the connections are proper and secure, and tweaking the settings don't make things any better... I would have to say that montior could be fubar'd.

That is why I was asking about the connections.  Monitors using the analog connection tend to be less dependent upon drivers for something as basic as color that do DVI monitors.

Sounds like a hosed monitor.

Once you get the monitor drivers loaded as Drk suggested, try tweak the monitor refresh rate a little bit... from 65hz up until it does not work anymore... see if the problem is restricted to just the refresh rate you ae using.  Perhaps by default you are set too high for the monitor, which would hose it a bit.

/too busy to look up your new monitor specs.  will look it up later.  post suggestive pics of yourself in the meantime.

Thanks guys for the info, I'm still sitting with the pink screen and neon colours.

Can only get back to SA to a town big enough to store pc products over the new year, so in the meantime I've had the monitor checked by connecting it to another guys pc with bigger graphics card, still neon.

Ken I've re-installed all the drivers, still no luck.  I will look for someone out here with a similar cable and check if it is the cable (not an easy feet as I live far from no-one-in-particular).

Hey you lobster guy... I would post suggestive pics of myself at this time to pass the time but I'm having some technical problems with making techies too happy over the Christmas Season ;)  I think talking about hardware, software and drivers should make for enough happy reading :-*
