Title: Help...computer guys... porn ? Post by nani on Dec 8th, 2005, 9:23pm I just found out my computer has been visiting some rather, um, nasty porn sites. No, it's not me or my hubby or even my adult kid... My 12 y.o. has a message board kinda thing at a game community. The history shows that these sites have been visited during the times that he's on his site. I know he's not the one actually visiting them because we are all right here in the room with him. My question: Is it possible for someone outside our house to "use" our computer in this way? Look at this history: 12/6 6:39 PM Hardcore Honey 12/6 6:40 PM Floorshow 12/6 6:41 PM NaughtyCakes Anyway, it goes on and on like that. WTF? If it's the kid...he's grounded bigtime, but I really don't think it is. [smiley=huh.gif] Help. :-/ |

If this is a family computer using a common login then anyone could have been there. It is best that everyone have login names and passwords, then you as an admin can monitor everyone uniquely. 2. Is this from Microsoft Internet Explorer? If so then it could simply have been pop ups from adware. Make sure all adware/spyware is gone and use Firefox or Opera, that may solve the problem. 3. I am assuming this computer is running Microsoft Windows xp. If it is then it wouldn't be hard for one of his friends to set up remote desktop and run his computer from theirs with or with out his knowledge. Best to make sure all unneeded services are turned off, or a strong firewall ( both hardware and software ) is in place. Opus/Paul |

Or maybe junior has been popping sumthing else up on his own ? Temptations are there and it's not that hard to do. I've done research and accidentally went to porn sites cuz I typed in sumthin I was looking up and some of the sites offering that info were NOT what they were supposed to be. Opps I didn't mean to see that Pam Don't some of the new programs have some sort of LOCK OUT for sites like that so they WON'T come up even if ya try to keep kids clean ? |

Post by CHTom on Dec 9th, 2005, 2:35am 12 year old boy...puberty...big increase in testosterone levels...not saying that he is guilty, but once males start going into puberty, well, the desire to see "nekked women" becomes overpowering. I imgaine, not being a computer expert, that there is a way that you can block out such sites, but I wouldn't be to hard on the kid if it is him as he is just doing what nature is telling him to do and eventually he'll settle down and find himself a real girl (which will bring in a whole other set of "problems") and not need to visit porn sites (remember when you and your husband were that age and really discovered the opposite sex!) We are slaves to our biology. Maybe it is time for "that talk" that most parents dread. :P :o :-/ |

You'd be surprised what I get and it's only me here. If he admits to it, then take his password out for a while. But I always found out if you ask first, it keeps open the lines of communications. My then 13 yr old son clicked on one of those 'game" banners: catch the bug, win a prize things, and he got slammed with pop ups, porn spam in his email, all kinds of stuff. he had to change his email addy cuz he got literally hundreds of 'em. that being said: it is entirely possible that curiosity and hormones are running amok. I wouldn't go postal on the kid- just letting him know that YOU know is a very powerful deterrent for future surfing. A boy that age can and usually will be mortified if a mom or other female relative confronts them, even indirectly. sign me, mother of a 16 year old boy Jen |

He would neither confirm nor deny, but y'all would've been proud of how I handled it. I explained that curiosity was normal, but porn on the internet is NOT what sex is about. I told him I wanted him to know about real sex, which involves love and respect and caring. I said that porn was OK once he's had lots of positive and loving sexual experiences, not before. (around this time he got that "Please God, strike me dead so I don't have to listen to this" look, LOL) Then Papa reminded him how easy it was for us to bust him. Off to look at NetNanny programs... |

I would remove all the spyware and then see whats up. After that you can use net nanny or one of those parental control programs.
