Title: Give PEACE A Chance! In Memory of John Lennon
Post by jangus on Dec 8th, 2005, 6:09pm
Let's have a moment of silence (PEACE) to honor this man that dedicated his life to the arts, human rights and peace.

25 years ago today, John Lennon was shot twice in back in front of his home in New York City. -DOA-

And the lovely Richard Nixon wanted to deport this man because he was planning a concert tour that would merge "Rock music with Politics" where he would speak about the importance of registering to vote and then actually getting out and voting!

The FBI had over 300 pages of Top Secret documents on Lennon. Jon Wiener, history professor at the University of California Irvine had to take the FBI to court in order to gain access to these documents. It is our civil right to access this information freely, yet the FBI witheld them until a judge ordered them released. The FBI (our tax dollars) spent $215,000 to try and hold on to documents that belong to US!

Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Back then I was listening to Larry King's all night radio show. His callers spent at least 5 or 6 hours talking of nothing else. Boomers lost a lot that day.   :'(

Hearing on the news that Lennon was shot stands out in my mind as clear as a bell, I was 15 at the time and home from school sick. My mum and I were listening to the midday news together on the TV but not really paying attention until we heard that. I remember us both looking at each other, stunned, both thinking "Did we just hear that?" It took us ages to be able to speak  :'( Its still a really vivid memory.
