Title: Oldies but Goodies... Post by Langa on Nov 30th, 2005, 11:25am Yesterday I watched an old rerun of Welcome Back Kotter...remember that show? I know you do. Don’t try to act like I’m the only one that owned one of their lunch boxes :-/. I was totally in love with John Travolta then. Remember the fat Mom who would suffocate her son with her hugs? “Momma, I can’t breathe”…LMAO! And my brother's fave...Charlie's Angels. He had that famous Farrah Fawcett poster in his room on his wall for years. Also loved the real Outer Limits and Twilight Zone. And the Ghoul......son of Ghoulardi and I knew the guy actually. He was in an ass kickin band we used to go see. But his midget died not long ago in a bar, some girls 'painted him' cuz they thought he fell asleep and they found him in the morning dead all painted up like a sissy. The Rascals was fun and the 3 Stooges too. Guess I never much beein into reality tv have I ? And who could forget the Nelsons or Mickey Mouse Club - well some of you (most of you in fact) weren't born early enough to remember most of them, but that Tim Considine was grovey back in the 50s. Even in black and white. And most of us "old timers" learned to dance on "American Bandstand". My SON had the Farrah poster in his room. I even actually watched MTV one time (for a research paper I was doing on Rock 'n Roll for college - torture!) I REMEMBER when the Beatles had SHORT hair and parents called them "long haired *&^&%%$$!!!!" Yep, you're right -- they just don't make 'em like they used to. So many old sitcoms but I never missed the 50s SF stuff on weekends. Rocky Jones, Captain Midnight and the obscure Science Fiction Theater. All pre- TZ and Outer Limits. We have PAX here. Every day they run Ozzie, I Married Joan and My Little Margie...The thing is I saw them all when I was around ten or so. God I'm old. We were Carol Burnet Show freaks here and remember her when Garry Moore introduced her....this is old stuff. Too bad Police Squad didn't last on tv too. It kills me. He's a comedic genius. ;;D Oh, and Mork and Mindy, Bosom Buddies, Eight is Enough, Three's Company, Newhart, Dr. Who (my step dad was a HUGE fan), Wonder Woman (yes, I loved it too, had the Underoos panties AND top ;)), and a whole bunch more I can't think of at the moment. I watched a TON of TV when I was little. Inbetween my Mom's 3 marriages and her not getting home until late from work, it helped me to escape. Have Gun Will Travel. The western too good to be repeated. Actually it was kept out of reruns for decades, I think because family or somesuch owned the thing. It was good. Days and Nights of Molly Dodd. One of my favorites. girly stuff.... :o Back in the 50s there was a weekly Sherlock Holmes production that I think it was a half hour. I was hooked. It's mentioned now and then but not rerun. There was a McCarthy era/cold war/red scare show with Richard Carlson called "I Led Three Lives." It would be fun to see again. I'm trying to remember the guy that it was based on. Damn. We all watched Father Knows Best, Lassie, and so many light comedies. Everybody watched the same stuff back then. Not much choice. Garry Moore was on forever too. Alan King and Carol Burnett got famous there. My favorite variety show from that era is Your Show of Shows. Sid Ceaser and Imogene Coca. The stuff they did then is still hilarious. Mel Brooks, Neil Simon and Woody Allen all wrote stuff for that show. Others great writers too. Charlie |

I used to love Petrocelli and Policewoman too, Ellery Queen was another one I loved. Dallas was unmissable (as I found out for real in July ;) ) and so was Twin Peaks. The one thing I will NEVER forgive you lot for exporting though is Jerry Springer [smiley=laugh.gif] I do like our TV programmes but I figured most of you wouldn't have heard of many of them so I didn't bother listing them edited to add and I did like the Waltons so just shoot me now! |

I saw Chief Halftown back in the 80s at a Home Improvement type of convention and had my picture taken with him. Of course I asked him to say, "Onay, Tribal Members. Onay". Was on Happy The Clown's TV show when I was a tiny tot. Got to ride around on the train that he had in the studio but the engine got hot and I jumped off and ran right into the camera. Happy wasn't happy with me. My brother was on Sally Starr's show and she kissed him on the cheek. He wouldn't wash his face for days! We also got to go see Gene London. He made all of the kids sit on the cold studio floor while he did some kind of arts and crafts project. What a meanie!! Ah, the good old days!! |

I have an acquaintence here that has 6 satellite dishes about his house aimed all over the universe so he can presumably watch televison from Katmandu or Spitzbergen.
