Title: Watch out for PayPal hoax Post by DonnaHar on Nov 25th, 2005, 2:32pm Over the past three days I have received at least 3 e-mails daily from what looks like PayPal, asking to verify my account info, or that someone tried three times in a row to enter my account and failed so they were kicked off and now my account was invalid. I wrote to PayPal and found out that they NEVER fail to address you BY NAME when they write to you. Never "Dear Member". I was told that by clicking on the link provided in the hoax e-mails would put a virus on my computor. If you receive any mail that does not address you by name, it's suspect. If you receive an e-mail that asks for account info and a link to provide it, it's a hoax. Forward these suspicious e-mails to spoof@PayPal.com. Be careful out there. And how many e-mails have you received asking you to open a bank account and share in millions by laundering money for out of country lawyers, etc.? If you haven't, I'll post a couple. |

Title: Re: Watch out for PayPal hoax Post by catlind on Nov 26th, 2005, 10:51am Donna is correct, any official email from paypal will have your name in it. Never click on the link in an a paypal or ebay email, always open a new browser and type in the address yourself. Both PayPal and EBay have a message center that they put the messages they send out via email. In addition, NEVER reply to an email that has requested personal information of any kind unless YOU initiated the contact. Follow those simple rules and you will keep yourself and your personal information a little safer. Cat |

Title: Re: Watch out for PayPal hoax Post by Charlie on Nov 26th, 2005, 12:24pm I get them all the time. I emailed ebay about it long ago and learned of it. Sometimes when I get them, I'll separately go to my paypal account and double check but I never reply to one of these things. Careful kids. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/bat.gif Charlie |
