Title: Bad Day
Post by stevegeebe on Nov 18th, 2005, 9:34pm
My friend, who was helping me bring our properties back to life almost lost his life today.

We were trying to get up to the 17th floor of our offices to pack our spaces for the move to the new office.  We pulled the door to the elevator back and he stepped into what he thought was the cab of the elevator to turn on the elevator cab light and vanised before my eyes and fell about 25 feet into the elevator pit.

He fell silently until he hit the bottom of the pit. He vanished before my eyes.  If you don't know what is at the bottom of an elevator pit you don't know what went through my head.  It is not a good place to end up.

Long story short..he broke both ankles an arm and possible ribs. I called 911 and attempted to get down to the basement without a flashlight.  I found a ladder to get down to him in the pit and once it hit the bottom of the pit, he started to climb out with two broken ankles and a broken arm.  He got half way up and I grabbed his jacket and pulled him up the rest of the way.  The ambulance folks showed up and we lifted him on to gurney and followed him on to the hospital.

He could have died but God did not want him yet.  I'm drunk and can not tell you all of the details.  The moaning from a dark hoistway will haunt me forever.

Pray for my friend Danny.

Thanks,
Steve G

That's what I told him at the hospital Jonny.

This guy is what everybody wants in a friend.  I'm not saying it because of what happend today.  He really is what humans should attempt to be.  He is a rock.

If you met him you would shortly know what I am saying.

Thanks,
Steve G

Steve, your friend could have been helping someone else that day. Someone not as concerned as you. Please remember, YOU were there to help HIM as well.
I'm so glad his injuries were not worse, and I am soo glad you were there to help, and that YOU were not hurt as well!
I hope he heals quickly and completely, and that your friendship lasts a lifetime!

Danny had surgery on his ankles Friday night. Dianne and I visited with him Saturday. His left ankle had damage to the foot area and the right had serious damage to the heal.  Screws and pins galore. His arm is not broken nor his ribs.  He is in good in the head as well.

Thanks for all the good vibes, prayers and support.

This and other things this year has me thinking alot.  I have not arrived at the most important lesson but I hope to soon and bring it up with you folks and see what y'all think.

Again, thanks for all that you do.  It's important to me and others.

Steve sorry to hear about your friend and what a shock it must have been for you to witness that!

I'm glad that he will be OK and just remember that every experience becomes a valuable lesson and experience makes us strong.
